# books added: 9
# books read: 7
TBR - end of month: 378 (1 book currently reading)

Level Two: Point Me in the Right Direction (20-40 Books)

SHRINK THAT TBR
DURATION: July 1, 2016 – June 30, 2017
We all have TBR lists, and while some are miles long, others aren’t quite so bad. This challenge is intended to help us reduce our Goodreads TBR list; if you complete all of the tasks, you will have read 40 books. For this challenge, only books that are on your Goodreads TBR list will count. If you have multiple GR TBR lists, you may use any of those lists -- but you must use just one list for the entire challenge! Otherwise, the usual rules apply.
You can do the tasks in any order, but remember: your TBR list will change as the year progresses, so do NOT plan out all of your books at the beginning of the challenge. Wait until just before you're ready to complete a task to choose which book/s you'll read!
PLEASE NOTE: Each task asks you to sort your TBR list in a different way. Please read carefully!
Link to the Challenge
✓ 1. Read three books from series on your Goodreads TBR list that you have started and not finished. Books can be from the same series or from different series. Tell us the series.
✓ Destroyer Angel Anna Pigeon series read 9/17/2016
✓ The Love Song of Miss Queenie Hennessy Harold Fry series read 1/2/2017
✓ The Secret Place Dublin Murder Squad series read 3/5/2017
✓ 2. Read two books from your TBR list that you own – print books only please!
NOTE: If you don't own ANY print books, you may use e-books, audiobooks or library books that are on your TBR for this task.
✓ Fighting Westway: Environmental Law, Citizen Activism, and the Regulatory War That Transformed New York City read 11/24/2016
✓ The Echo Maker read 12/9/2016
✓ 3. Read two books from your TBR list that will help with two different, difficult-to-finish challenges. (Like an ABC challenge for which you still need Q, U, & X). Tell us which challenge.
✓ The Underdogs read 12/19/2016 Let's Go To Disneyland challenge - need to spell out "New Orleans Square"
✓ Us read 5/7/2017 Scrabble, Anyone? challenge - There are not a lot of "U" books, and 2 days after I read my first "U" book, I finished a round of scrabble. When I got new letters for the next round, there was another "U"!
✓ 4. Read three books from your TBR list that are by new-to-you authors.

✓ Angry Housewives Eating Bon Bons recommended by Donna read 1/23/2017

✓ 6. Open your TBR list and sort by date added. Make a note of the number of books on your to-read list. Divide that number in half (if you come up with a fraction, round up), and read the book that corresponds to that number.
EXAMPLE: If I have 450 books on my to-read list, the halfway point would be book #225, so I would read book #225 on my to-read list.
Note: If your "halfway" book is in the middle of a series and you’re a read-in-order person (like me!), you may read the next book from that series instead of your halfway book. Also, if you aren’t able to obtain a copy of your halfway book, you may read one up or one down from your halfway point.

1-2-3 CHALLENGE, REVISITED
Begins January 1, 2017 / no deadline to complete
This challenge is all about counting ... sort of :) Some of you may have joined this challenge when we first introduced it several years ago, but we have a lot of new folks in the group, so we decided to bring it back -- with a twist, of course.
To complete this challenge, you will need to read a specified number of books from each of 20 categories. Instead of the mods making the choices, though, this time, you get to choose your categories from the list below, AND choose which number to assign to each category. There are more than 20 categories listed, so you don't have to do them all, but you certainly may complete all 25 categories if you'd like, adding another 115 books to the challenge :)

Best of luck with your goals in 2018!

Well, last year I read 140 books, and 171 the year before that. Right now, I'm way behind... I need to read 17 books to reach this year's goal - basically, I'll need to spend every free minute reading until the end of the year :-)
Thanks for your kind words. I have had a bad habit of joining too many challenges in the past, and the only way I could keep on top of things (and have a prayer of completing them) was to get organized. Sometimes I think it's overkill, and it almost becomes a part-time job (lol)

That's amazing :) The only way I would be able to read more than 100 books is if I stopped working and studying and sleeping... I could live without the first two but my sleep is just too precious so that's not bound to happen :) lol
Haha, I know what you mean. I have the same habit :) I had pledged to reel it back this year but I'm struggling with that, at the moment. I blame the challenge creators for making them so alluring! :D

I love doing challenges so much that I actually belong to two other challenge groups besides this one! Last year, I started out joining every challenge that came along, and ended up being overwhelmed, and it just wasn't fun anymore. This year, I'm going to be more selective on which challenges I join so that reading will be fun again.
Update 12/30 - I still seem to be joining a lot of challenges; however, I'm limiting the number of tasks that I commit to. Basically, I'm committing to no more than 12 books for a yearly challenge, and 3 books for a quarterly challenge. Sounds doable, right?
