Sign up here if you want to choose our books one month. Also, if you want to add any themes.

Mary (mw8019) | 273 comments I would love to choose again in 2017. It was the highlight of my year, last year.

I've gotten a turn to choose books both of the past two years, so put me at the bottom of the substitute list, if you'd don't mind :)

message 5: by Gem (last edited Dec 09, 2016 01:27PM) (new)

Gem I'll be happy to take a turn.

I see we did not get to Amish last year, that would be my suggestion for a theme.

Here are themes nominated last year after the selection closed:

The Great Outdoors

US region - West

Garden Center/Nursery

Home Owner's Association - This one may need to be broader

Becky | 211 comments I would love to pick again this year!

message 8: by Kim (new)

Kim (catmommie) Sounds like fun. I need to be more active in here!

message 9: by Becky (new)

Becky | 211 comments i'm thinking that the themes that didn't get selected this year should be priority before other themes picked so that we get a variety but that's just my opinion. you know what they say about opinions..... lol

Barb | 1057 comments Mod
Or it could be that the themes that weren't selected this year weren't chosen for a reason?

Becky | 211 comments Barb wrote: "Or it could be that the themes that weren't selected this year weren't chosen for a reason?"

that could be. i would have to go back & look at them. i can't remember what they were now.

Sharon PLB (sharonlpb) | 234 comments I'd like to suggest Way South as a theme. That could include anything below the equator. Phryne Fisher and Precious Ramotswe come to mind. There are probably others. Since I'm new to the group, I apologize if this has already been done.

Way South as in Southern Hemisphere. Here's a list of countries:

Sharon - Are you interested in selecting featured reads one month?

message 14: by Sharon (new)

Sharon PLB (sharonlpb) | 234 comments Thanks, Nell. I'd love to! But can I have a month in the middle of the year? That would give me some time to see how it's done.

message 15: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 2505 comments Mod
Hi Sharon. Middle of the year would be fine. It's a pretty simple procedure. For one book you pick a theme of your choice and then a book that fits. For your second choice, it's totally up to you. The only requirements are that the books be the first in a series, and that they haven't been a group read in the last 18 months. You can check if the books have been a group read by looking at the bookshelf.

https://www.goodreads.com/group/books...

Nell and I will take a look at the themes and probably do some editing. Like with HOA - it's pretty limited so would be broadened by combining it with home ownership and home improvement.

Using my trusty fruit machine Gem will be picking our books for January.

message 18: by Gem (new)

Gem Is there a list of themes to choose from yet?

message 19: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 2505 comments Mod
I just messaged you :) Let me know if there are any questions.

message 20: by Gem (new)

Gem Got it, thanks. My choice for a theme is Amish (I'm currently on the third book of the An Amish Mystery entitled Plain Dead by Emma Miller and am really enjoying the series.) And my book choice is Twisted Threads by Lea Wait.

I edited my message 17. I remembered Sharon wanted later in the year.

We're still looking for people who want to choose books next year.

It looks like Plain Dead was a monthly choice in May of this year. Is there another Amish series you'd like to pick?

Gem, if you need any help:

message 24: by Gem (new)

Gem Sorry about that, let's try again. How about Dark Road Home by Karen Harper.

message 25: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 2505 comments Mod
Well, the cozy-mystery list is a bit misleading. It includes authors and series that aren't cozies. Dark Road Home sounds more like a thriller mystery than a cozy. I guess we'll have to check into any books from there that we aren't familiar with. I also noted that the book was close to 450 pages, which might be too long for some of us. I hate to ask, but could you give it another go?

message 26: by Julesy (new)

Julesy | 409 comments You can add my name as a book selector in 2017.

message 27: by Gem (new)

Gem Lol, I'm batting 1000. Let's try Murder Simply Brewed by Vannetta Chapman.

message 28: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 2505 comments Mod
And we have a winner - Murder Simply Brewed.

I'm so glad this one succeeded. I felt so bad telling you the others wouldn't work.

message 32: by Randa (new)

Randa | 175 comments Jaxnsmom...do you have enough "choosers" for this coming year?
I would be happy to help if you still need people to volunteer.

message 33: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 2505 comments Mod
Thanks Randa, I've added you to the list.

I've completed the list of people to choose books. If anyone else wants to choose, Barb, Nell, and I meant to be alternates, so we'll be glad to give our spots away.

As a heads up - Sharon is thinking of nominating The Book Club Murders by Leslie Nagel as her themed book. It's $.99 at amazon right now.

Michele - We will list you as an alternate for 2017 in case someone else isn't able to take her turn. Sign up for next year will be in November/December.

jaxnsmom | 2505 comments Mod
The Book Club Murders is definitely one of the May books. Sharon will let me know her second choice as soon as she can.
