Amazon #1 x 5 Just finished an 'experimental' Amazon Select Promotion (free ebook). On the Edge of the Loch reached #1 in five categories - even ones I didn't place it in: 1. Action-Adventure, 2. Sea Adventures, 3. British (Literature), 4. Mystery-Thriller-Suspense, 5. Psychological. On the Edge of the Loch (http://amzn.to/28RRRdt) is a literary/psychological novel that's hard to pin into one particular category. I know we all say that, but in this case it's a fact. Nonetheless, I remain somewhat mystified by how all this works - algorithms, ranking, timing, etc. But getting to #1 comes down (still) to the equivalent of 'bums on seats' - if you can reach and persuade the (right) great masses out there, a certain percentage will act, provided the product merits it. Having said that, I read a creditable statistic recently that claimed only 10% of books acquired are read to the end. Irony! And the learning goes on . . .
