“A man does not recover from such devotion of the heart to such a woman! He ought not; he does not.” Says the good Captain Harville from Persuasion

Please post updates in separate comments. Books and book cover links may be utilized by clicking the 'add book/author' link above the comment box.

There you go. Salute to the Captain. :)

Silver Thistle (silverthistle) I'm hoping to reach 100 but would be happy with 76. Big leap from my usual yearly 50+ but I'm keen to make a dent in 100.

I should really whisper this, but... I don't know who Captain Harville is as I've only read P&P so far and got a bit sidetracked and obsessed with it :)

You would have to read Persuasion to know that man. He is a friend from the Navy of Captain Wentworth.

We'll cheer you on as you work to increase your annual reading total, Silver Thistle.

Oh, you are in for a lovely surprise when you get the chance to meet Captain Harville in Persuasion. :)

Silver Thistle (silverthistle) I just updated my YTD thread with my first finish. Am I meant to list it here too? (First year on the challenge and still a bit unsure :/ )

...I'll just post anyway, :D

1) Darcy By Any Other Name by Laura Hile Darcy By Any Other Name - 4 Stars

You can do both or either. You're also welcome to update here with just your monthly or quarterly numbers, too. Whatever is easiest or feels best for you.

Thanks. It seems a bit of overkill to enter it twice but probably a lot won't follow the individual YTD threads so I'll do both. Probably.

There are some who have spreadsheets to keep track of various "shelves" for book read or TBR and then there are those of us who post reviews both on GR and Amazon plus I will be posting books here and on by Y-T-D list. But none of us will keep track of whether you do one or both - we are just happy to cheer you on PLUS take note of the books you most enjoyed so we can add those to our TBR piles. Good luck and great start.

Thanks Sheila. I'll see how the mood takes me and post accordingly :)

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 1166 comments I'm amazed at the number of books everyone says they have in their TBR pile. Like mine, if we just read them, we would be in this level. These authors have to stop and let us catch up. I mean really...

I know! They really need to give us a fighting chance!

I've been compiling a list on my JAFF blog of published books which are available at the moment, not counting all the books to be released this year, and I'm up to 758 already!

I have about 50 physical JAFF books on my shelves so far but I've only been collecting them for a few months... I lost count of the kindle ones. That's in addition to the roughly 3000+ unread other books on my kindle(s) that are from my other book interests. Goodness knows how many paper books I have on my shelves and in boxes, etc. that I've been accumulating for years. I know from talking to other book friends that I'm not alone though so I don't feel (quite) so bad about it.

It's lucky I got into JAFF when I did, I might have run out of reading material otherwise, lol! And yet still I dither about and wonder what I'm to read next...

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 1166 comments Silver Thistle, I told my husband the same thing. He was not impressed. A habit is a habit in his eyes. Oh well, he should be grateful that gift giving for me is a snap. Give me an Amazon gift card and I'm in Heaven. I mean really.

message 20: by Mary (new)

Mary | 709 comments Yes Jeanne,a habit is a habit is a habit, however surely we all agree on the list of vices, book loving must be placed pretty low on spectrum.

message 22: by Mary (new)

Mary | 709 comments I mean to say, what harm could a bunch of little ol' words do.....? Change the world??

Drain your bank account? Sure?
But hey,you gotta spend your money on something,so,in my opinion,it may as well be on something that will bring you countless hours of happiness!!!
Win-win situation!!

message 23: by J. W. (new)

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 1166 comments I can do without a lot of things so I can have my books. Guess I really should keep deodorant, toothpaste and soap on that grocery list. Dang, I know I can cut back on something. LOL!!!

message 24: by Mary (new)

Mary | 709 comments Wine,beer and champers,Jeanne!

Now that the New Year celebrations are over, cut right back on your alcohol consumption! :)

That should do it!!

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 1301 comments Ladies, my husband golfs and that is from when he was a young lad so you know that he spends more on one round of golf than I do in one month on books (I read a lot of kindle unlimited and unpublished ones so that it is not extremely expensive.) But in good weather he might be golfing 3 times per week....cart rental, a few beers, maybe lunch and it adds up.

message 28: by Mary (new)

Mary | 709 comments Exactly,Sheila. So well said! What's good for the goose is good for the gander!!

message 29: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (dmbrown) | 734 comments Well, that argument doesn't work as well for me because I like to golf, too! And I play in a ladies' league (without the hubby) so it's not as though I only go out with him. Having said that, he DOES play a lot more often than I do, especially during the winter months. (It might be warmer here in SC, but I don't care to be outside for any length of time when the temp goes below 70 degrees F.)

message 30: by Anji (new)

Anji | 275 comments Oh my word, Debbie, 70 degrees F sounds like a heat wave to me right now! Last Thursday, we had 26 F here in Yorkshire for most of the day.

message 31: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 1301 comments Brrrrrr. We are hanging in the 40 degree range. Rainy but we had snow, sleet and freezing rain about 5 days ago.

message 32: by J. W. (new)

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 1166 comments We were in the 60's F today and it is expected to tank and then a dusting up to an inch of snow is expected tomorrow. Yea, that's our weather for you.

Super news, Jeanne!

Now, that's also good to see a four-star for that one. I was planning to read it last fall and got distracted.

message 41: by Anji (new)

Anji | 275 comments My goodness Jeanne, 76 already? The mind boggles as to what your total will be by the end of the year!

I've actually just discovered I've got that one on my Kindle and it's been there since August 2014. All of the authors at Austen Variations had a sale back then and I bought everything on offer. Some of it's still in my TBR mountain.

Congratulations to the leader of the pack on her numbers.

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 1166 comments Thanks Sheila; however, I think we have someone leading in stealth. They just have not revealed their list yet. I just happened to be in a reading mood and it was raining, couldn't get outside. Once the storms clear out, I will have to clean up the yard of all those broken limbs. Thanks for commenting.

I imagine its Sophia. we haven't heard from her in awhile. And we have a few other GR friends that have been strangely quiet... silently moving forward through the levels in stealth mode. Yeah, they're out there.
