Please keep all discussion and speculation to the events of Prologue and Chapters 1-9.

No spoiler tags required. Though it would be highly appreciated if you Uncheck Add to my Update Feed to avoid accidentally spoiling this for your goodreads friends.

Please do not discuss events from later chapters/books. Referring back to events from a previous section/book is fine.

So I got to the of chapter 6 and there was no way I was stopping there. Already off to a great start. I'm excited to see Avasarala and Bobbie so soon. And Bobbie is on the Rocinate!

Avasarala had me cracking up already. I hope we keep seeing her throughout the book and not just small cameos.

I'm concerned about the POVs though. I guess there are 5 so far? 3 men and two women. Originally I thought it was going to be 3&1 but it looks like Clarissa is a POV again. I liked the POV in the prologue, but that seems to be a one time thing.

So 3/5 are also Free Navy POVs. It seems pretty one sided. I guess I'll have to wait and see how it plays out.

I already can't wait for tomorrow, and it made getting stuck in traffic suck a lot less since bonus book time!

So to circle back a bit. Filip is a disaster. Lots of anger and now he shot a cop? We don't know why yet, but the video evidence doesn't look good.

Dawes is going super easy on him, and it seems like Marco is barely being civil about it. I'll be curious to see how the aftermath of this plays out.

Poor Naomi, not only is her ex a nightmare, but her son might actually be worse.

I'm not sure how I feel about Pa yet. I like that she's wary of Marco though.

Suzanne | 1582 comments I got to mid-Chapter 3 so far. I liked the prologue a lot and I would really really like to know more about the situation on earth - I hope we get back to that at some point.

Filip seems pretty messed up. Transferring his primary hatred to his mother because she had the nerve to survive...yeah...messed up.

So much is happening. It is good that the logistics of the food shortages on both sides are being addressed because that would be a real and huge issue.

Anyway - great start!

Yeah good point about the food shortages.

Lindsay | 546 comments This is the Avasarala that I'd like to have seen more of in the SyFy series:
“Shit,” Amos said. “And here I was enjoying being so absolutely thumb-up-the-ass useless.”

“You want a little ass-play, that’s your business,” Avasarala said.
“Only you can do it in a crash couch. The Rocinante isn’t part of the fleet, so losing it won’t leave a hole in our defenses. And I understand you’ve got a few after-market add-ons—”

“Keel-mounted rail gun,” Alex said with a grin.

“—that scream of overcompensating for tiny, tiny penises, but might prove useful.

Well to be fair to season 1 Avasarala, she wasn't in the first book, so all of that stuff is new/made up by the show. I'm hoping for more sarcasm and cursing in season 2.

SyFy/USA seem to be trending toward having cursing in their shows now and simply censoring it on air (and then releasing it uncensored on BluRay). Maybe in other countries it airs uncensored.

Plus that made up scene with her and Holden's mother was FANTASTIC.

But yeah, that scene is one (of many) in this book that had me laughing my ass off.

Geoff (geoffgreer) Its nice to finally to check out these threads because I'm loving the book so far.

You mention the amount of POVs from Free Navy characters but they seem to be showing different sides of it. Filip is nuts and Marco is a megalomaniac. The other two POVS though, Pa & Anderson, both show a more realistic view of the Free Navy. Pa is immediately wary once the meeting is called, and Anderson feels like things are moving a bit fast. And that followed a passage telling us how, in the past, he's shifted alliances to better his own interests. That's 2/5 from the meeting who maybe aren't 100% with Marco. That's not probably not good for his new plans.

Loved the mission that the Roci crew went on. Bobbi is great. Its nice to have more people on the crew. And I can see some people being unhappy about it but I enjoy being able to put faces to the crew because of the tv show. Sure it might not match what people had in their heads, but I like it.

Funny. I thought all of the Avarasala scenes in the tv show were boring and unnecessary. She's great but the scenes didn't do anything for me. I felt that way because I've read the books but I understand why they would add more depth for the non-readers.
