C Marshall "End of Watch" should not have been the winner this year in the Thriller/Mystery category. It should be classified as Science Fiction, as most of Stephen King's books are, And then we could have seen a real winner of Mystery and Thriller. Too bad.

Tammy Your pain is felt by other genre lovers as well.

For Goodreads, whatever category is chosen by the publisher is the one in which a book is entered. This caused controversy in some circles with "Underground Railroad" being placed into historical fiction instead of literary fiction.

Maozamom It was fantasy. Not science fiction.

Phil Judd I have never been a reader or liker of 'Fantasy'...especially when it permeates crime fiction. I slogged through books 1 & 2 and with book 3 had to stop at page 200, chanting "this is ridiculous...End Of Read !" It just seems all to easy to use fantasy...magic happening is so childlike and a simplistic device to use in 'crime' writing. After years of procrastinating I finally gave the great Stephen King a fair go. I'll stick to 'reality' and sensible story telling and forget the flights of fantasy. Not denegrating the man an iota, he is a genius at his genre...just sad that decent crime writers are pushed aside with this type of rubbish.

Jonathan Kent I agree, the first two books in the series were definitely more police procedural thriller. But the final book was more of the standard 'King' fantastical fare.

It should be characterised more in the Fantasy & Science Fiction category. That said, I did find these elements believable. King has a way of making even the most fantastical elements grounded in the real world. IMO

Scott Boss I enjoyed the first two. Not a ton but worth reading IMO.
The third one was where it derailed. I'm glad I read it just to hear the end of that story but all in all, it just felt like everything fell into place too easily.
