Linda | 1693 comments Although several are on my TBR list, I'm in the final pages of American Heiress The Wild Saga of the Kidnapping, Crimes and Trial of Patty Hearst by Jeffrey Toobin American Heiress: The Wild Saga of the Kidnapping, Crimes and Trial of Patty Hearst. I had started it on audio but ht loan period ended before I did, so now I have a hard copy I finishing. I've read Toobin before and like his writing style, the way he tells a story.

Betsy (ebburtis) | 1291 comments Surprisingly (since I am usually behind the curve), I've read two from this issue, both addressing the experience of being Black/African-American in different time periods in US history:
The Underground Railroad and Another Brooklyn

I liked Underground Railroad, but I'm not sure it lives up to the hype. In fact, I found the blurring between fact and fiction somewhat confusing (and I was an American History major in college!). I kept thinking, "did that really happen?" I wasn't sure what was Whitehead's invention and what was historical. Maybe that was the point? Not sure.

On the flip side, I absolutely LOVED Another Brooklyn. Incredibly beautiful writing. One of my favorites for 2016.
