Let's continue this challenge in 2017, this time with a more realistic goal. While our individual goals may vary, everyone of us has a goal to complete at least one series in 2017.

Here's how it works.

1. You can find the challenge here or on our group home page.
2. After selecting the challenge, complete the information requested, including the number of series you plan to complete in 2017 (it says books here but for this challenge, think series). Where it asks for a shelf name, type in your profile name. Save the information.
3. Go to your shelf and edit "bookshelves." Type in "350 series" (without the quotes) and then select "Add." This will be the shelf you'll use to track your progress (more to come).
4. Return to the group home page and select "update my entry" and add the shelf name as follows: 350-series
5. Click "Save."
6. You've now entered the challenge!

Now, how do you track your series progress?
Whenever you read the last book in a series that you now consider completed (not up to date), add that book to your 350-series shelf. It will be included in the challenge results.

We hope everyone will join!

Laura Even though I did this last year I can't figure this out. I can't see anything on challenge page to select.

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 12912 comments Mod
I plan to do so. Thanks for the suggestion.

I don't remember this happening last year but I might have set this up in January.

message 9: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 12912 comments Mod
Yep! I set it up on January 7:)

Learn something new everyday!

message 10: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) Well, I think I just joined. Is there a place where we can list the series completed or want to complete or comment on what others have read? Would this be the place?

Sheila, this may be helpful for understanding and navigating the group.

How the Group Works

message 12: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) Well actually I meant I think I just joined the challenge, not the group.

message 13: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 12912 comments Mod
Got that. This is for the second part of your message. It outlines where to post your series completed, where to comment on what others have read, etc.

message 14: by Andrew (new)

Andrew (ajb65) | 58 comments Finished my first series of the year, Grant County Series by Karin Slaughter.

message 15: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 12912 comments Mod
Woo hoo! Though you must be a wreck after that series.

message 16: by Andrew (new)

Andrew (ajb65) | 58 comments Just a bit! Rather shocking but not leave a spoiler!

message 17: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) Great series. Now you have to read her Will Trent series as well

message 18: by Andrew (new)

Andrew (ajb65) | 58 comments That's next up for me.

message 19: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) KS in one of my fave authors. I'm all caught up on her series :)

message 20: by Tracey (new)

Tracey (trakka) | 1363 comments Enjoy Will Trent Andrew. That is on my list for this year.

Congrats on finishing the Grant County series.

message 24: by Jeff (new)

Jeff Sorry if I'm missing this information somewhere or just being dense, but what is the difference between "complete" and "up-to-date"?

message 25: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 12912 comments Mod
You're not being dense.

Completed means you've read the last book in a series that doesn't plan on releasing another book...it's the final book in the series.

Up to date means you've read the most current book in a series that hasn't ended...future books are planned to be released later in the year or next year.

Make sense?

message 26: by Jeff (new)

Jeff Thank you. Yes, perfect sense, although I wonder what you do with a series you're not sure about. Like if there's no definitive word about whether there will be another book. Do you consider it complete only when it's certain?

message 27: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 12912 comments Mod
We discussed this issue in another unrelated topic so I'm copying my answer here where it belongs!

If the series appears to be complete (last book released some time ago, the story feels final, no word from the author about continuing the series, etc.), consider it complete. Otherwise, if there's some doubt, mark it up to date.

Last year, a few I'd tagged as up to date ended up being finished and vice versa. No need to change a previous year but if things change in the current year, you can always adjust. I've done that, too.

I've also used the GR "Ask the Author" feature with some success. For example, Robyn Carr answered my question about Thunder Point, letting me know the series was over when no formal announcement was made.

Hope this helps.

Mary Beth | 974 comments Yay! I just figured this out and it worked!

message 29: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 12912 comments Mod
Congrats, Mary Beth!

message 30: by Michelle (new)

Michelle | 3257 comments Almost went full on panic yesterday. My complete series wasn't adding onto my challenge. Had to start over. But it's sorted ( with the year as 2027 but after all the editing and trying to fingers out what I'm doing wrong I'm leaving the year as 2027. ) and I now have one series completed.

message 31: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 12912 comments Mod
Oh, well, as long as it works!

message 32: by Michelle (new)

Michelle | 3257 comments I actually reached my target of 10 completed series. And upped it by 5. Now I'm hoping that I didn't have to add the shelf name again when I increased the number of books.

message 33: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 12912 comments Mod
No, you don't. You just edit your goal number and keep going.

message 34: by Michelle (new)

Michelle | 3257 comments Thanx Jonetta. Good to know I don't have to try and figure this out again.

message 35: by Melissa (new)

Melissa (melissasd) | 1610 comments I have completed my second series - Miss. Peregrine's Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs. That meets my goal of 2 completed series for the year.

message 36: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 12912 comments Mod
Congrats, Melissa!

message 37: by Michelle (new)

Michelle | 3257 comments Congrats Melissa. Always a great feeling when you reach a goal.

message 38: by Jeff (new)

Jeff Do people include books/series that they are re-reading in these challenges? I have one completed series that I've been re-reading all of this year (6 out of 7 so far), and another that I'm re-reading some of before I read the two latest books for the first time. So far I've only included those last two in my 250-up-to-date list.

message 39: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 12912 comments Mod
Re-reads definitely count!

message 40: by Lieke (new)

Lieke | 1722 comments I think I finished my series finished challenge: finish 7 series :)
I can't find anything about a sixth book in the series, but there where a few years between 4 and 5 so I'm not sure. But I will finish at least one more series this year to make up for that ;)

I'm not counting my reread series (if the complete series is a reread), since technically I have already finished them.

message 41: by Jeff (new)

Jeff I was checking back on this because I'm about to finish a series. But I think I added too many books to my 350 shelf. Are we only supposed to add the last book of each series?

message 42: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 12912 comments Mod
Yes, only the last book you read in the series.

message 43: by Robin (new)

Robin (robinmy) | 3473 comments I made my goal of completing 15 series this year. Now I have to figure out which ones I'll read next year.

message 44: by Andrew (new)

Andrew (ajb65) | 58 comments Well done Robin 👏. So far I have completed 12 but hope to finish some more by the end of the year. I worry, though, that I may have started more than I finished. 😂 Will need to check up on this. Watch this space. 👀

I always go in with the intention of completing a certain number of series before I can even think about starting a new one. And then a new one comes out, and well... I have zero self control.

You are not alone in this! In th end I completed 14 series which I am happy with.
