**Hidden Gems - information**
Thanks for coordinating hidden gems in 2017 Andrea!! I look forward to what hidden gems I will find in 2017.
Thanks for the lovely welcome, ladies! I'm looking forward to seeing all the Hidden Gems we discover in the coming year.

I'm going to try something new when I post the match-ups tomorrow (Jan 10), and I'd love some feedback on whether or not you like it.
Here's what I'm thinking:
When I post the match-ups, I will post the message number in which you may find your partner's designated shelf. So it could look like this:
Andrea (14) - Hannah (2)
The number beside each name is the message number in which that person specified the shelf they'd like their partner to choose from.
What do y'all think? If you want to wait and see how it works this month before replying, that's perfectly fine.
And I will also state this new change on the match-up list too, just in case some folks miss this post.

I will be posting the match-ups in the same thread that everyone signed up in. Will be doing that shortly, when I get on my computer. Thanks for your question, Joleen.

Thanks for the feedback, y'all! I'm glad it has been helpful to include the message numbers. I'll continue doing that every month. I appreciate you guys so much!

No - Andrea won't do match-ups until about May 10.
Olivia, no, you do not have to finish last month's HG first. We are allowed 60 days to read or HGs, so there is some overlap.

Charlene, if that happens, I usually pick something by someone I've read before. If I haven't read anything by any of the books' authors, then I pick the one that looks the most interesting to me (either by the cover or the premise). I hope you'll join in. Hidden Gems is really fun, and it's great to discover new-to-you authors as well as check books off your to-read list.
Of course. :) We never know what someone has on their list compared to what we've already read. If you end up with more questions once you get your match-up on the tenth of the month, feel free to ask me either here or in a private message. I'm happy to help.

Sure thing Hannah.
Click on My Books
You will see your shelves on the left side of the page
Anything that you've marked as "want to read" will be on your "want to read" shelf.
If you want to create a hidden gems shelf, click on "add shelf" and then you can add books to that shelf by looking up the book and clicking on the drop down and selecting which shelf to add it to.
Hope this help! Happy reading.

You can definitely use your "want to read" shelf for Hidden Gems - I do that.
There should be a rectangle under those that reads "Add Shelf".

That definitely works Hannah! Hidden Gems is a great thread.

Your welcome! It took me a while to navigate around Goodreads. Hang in there...you’ll master it soon. :-)

Hanna, go to "My Books" and scroll down till you see "Add shelf" on the left side of your page. It'll be above "Your reading activity".
Another way is to go to a specific book you want on the new list and click edit where you find "shelves", it's next to my to-read, and you should be able to click on "add new shelf" when the drop down pops up.
I hope this helps.
Hannah, if you are on the mobile app, you may want to try switching to a desktop or laptop in order to find the "add shelf" button on the "my books" page. Some things don't work so great in the app, I've heard.
Otherwise, Staci and Lauren have explained things well. Let us know if you need more help.

Good point Andrea! I totally was thinking of this from the point of view from laptop.

Our sweet moderators have invited me to help them out by handling the HGU threads. (Thank you, ladies!) So I am your new Hidden Gems Coordinator.
My name is Andrea Cox, and I have been reading for nearly as far back as I can remember. I am a copyeditor, tutor, and writer. My home is in Texas, where the summers are too hot, the winters not cold enough, and faith and family come before anything else. I'm an optimist who loves to encourage others to see the silver lining to every storm cloud, and I hope to serve the group well in my new role.
On January 1, 2017, the HGU threads for January through September 2016 will be deleted permanently, so if there are any notes you'd like to make on books you want to read that others enjoyed, please take a few minutes to do that during these last couple of weeks of this year. The threads for October through December 2016 will be deleted one per month beginning in February 2017, so be making your notes from those files as well.
Don't worry, though. New threads for the upcoming months will be headed your way soon!
Blessing to all,
Andrea
