Well I can't really recommend any books for this one! Let us know what is out of your comfort zone and maybe we can help you!

That bad is it? What's outside of your comfort zone!

For me, this is going to be something by Jane Austen. I've struggled with it for ages, so this will be the year I finally buckle down and face my aversion to her.

Yes, that bad. The only thing that's out of my comfort zone is erotica, and I don't want to read any of it. >:(

So, I might just find something I haven't read all year, something like a theoretical science book, or something political or religious.

Yeah, or just something that you're slightly unsure if you will like, I guess! It's quite hard when you're open to everything. Good thing for me I have my little Jane Austen problem, or I would probably have to go with some creepy horror book with lots of bugs; practically my worst nightmare.

Jacqueline (Fall In Love With The Sound of Words) (jackey_oh) For me I am adverse to reading anything by Jodi Picoult. Her subject matter is way out of my comfort zone. I don't like reading heartbreaking contemporary! So I will be reading Great Small Things for this one.

Honestly this category doesn't have to make you cringe. It could be something that you are wary of, a type of book you may never consider for yourself. Maybe you don't like Police Procedurals, or cozy mysteries, maybe your sick of werewolves and vampires, or you are not fond of romance.

Maybe this is a certain book that everyone has been recommending but something about it makes you hesitate. Remember these categories are totally up to you how to interpret.

I've only ever read one book by Jodi Picoult; it was the YA one she co-wrote with her daughter. I find the subject matter of her adult books to be quite disturbing. Her writing, however, is very good! Good luck with reading it. I'm going to be reading Persuasion by Jane Austen as it is supposed to me the most enjoyable of her novels in terms of lack of exaggeration on the social commentary. I'm also going to try and review each book (its already pencilled in on my calendar) to hold myself accountable!

I have only ever read one Picoult book...and I only read half of it, and I know the ending form another book my friend read. She is a wonderful writer and I applaud her courage to talk about some VERY difficult and even taboo things, but she just punches me right in the heart-- and I am not a fan of that! I prefer to not know the devesation is coming lol.

I have actually never read Persuasion, but I am a fan of Austen so I hope you enjoy this more then you did her other books. She does have A LOT of social commentary though doesn't she? :D

That is a great idea!!! I will do the same !

hahah, great idea Luke!!! I should have chosen that -- although I still could SGT is actually a read I'm doing for my other book club, I just can't bring myself to pick up anymore Picoult .

I can't get into antrhoporphism in literature, it just bugs me. So those mysteries where the cat solves everything would have made a good choice for me on this one too!

Oh boy…*rubs hands together* this should be fun. You know, I would've never read a cat cozy before this. So, we'll have fun with it. I mean, really, it's not like they're life-changing literary bildungsroman-type masterpieces, right? xD xD xD

hehe I have to admit I am not nearly as apprehensive as I was 5 minutes ago! Plus you speak the truth my friend, no uppergraduate literary classes needed! *side note...I totally had to look up bildungsroman so kudos to you!

A Christmas Cat Cozy? What COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG? xD xD xD I mean…cookies and sweaters and snow and a cat solves a murder? Yup. ;)

Oh, thanks! It's one of those intellectual words that doesn't mean much but totally means something very specific and yet intellectuals use it as more of a genre and that just makes me feel alienated. :\

So, any who, cat cozy it is. I'll be going to the store monday, so I'll let you know if I find anything. I think Joanna Fluke writes a lot of them, but there is no GR page for that author, so it may be an alias for several different writers.

Jacqueline (Fall In Love With The Sound of Words) (jackey_oh) Oh no Luke! You just jinxed it! I am wearing a festive sceptical cap, but I'm all in! I am totally letting you pick the book though!

Hahah, I just thought you sneezed xD. Lol man those intellectuals! It means like a book about a spiritual journey right? You know how off google can be sometimes!

Yes, I will let you handle the choosing of the book. The only thing I know about Joanne Fluke is she writes cozies about pastries. I know there are those Cat Who books, but thats as far as my knowledge of it goes. I'll see if I can't get a rec from my mom, she likes those cat mysteries.

I will do that, Jackie! I will get back to you on this subject on monday and hopefully the shelves at the store haven't been picked over. I mean, Christmas causing a run on Cat Cozies? That would be a CATastrophe! xD

True, that's what it's supposed to be, but that means it's become a genre of pretentious things that are hard to read - Shaman's Crossing by Robin Hobb (and about a thousand other really well written fantasies) fits that definition and it's not in there with the works of Ayn Rand or Catcher in The Rye, you know? They never have high school kids read Shaman's Crossing (or another incredible fantasy of such depth as there are so many) and say, hey, isn't that profound? Let's talk about the spiritual journey…let's talk about the human condition…let's talk about timeless virtues and struggles. It's like that the "bildungsroman" type books are the same books over and over again that you have to read in high school. That's what I was saying. It's like the sublime and profound "meaning of life" is so beaten over our head that it's missed all together. There are so many books that qualify for that definition but do not merit to be stacked up next to the titans of literature.

I won't let you down, Jackie. I'll get back to you Monday. ;)

"magical Cats" Sounds...interesting LOL! We'll give it a go, seems it might have a little humor as well. I am always down to read anything at least once! :D

Thanks for taking on the book choice! Let me know when you want to start it.

Nope the monthly thing was kind of just to keep things organized for me, for the prize giveaway. You can do all of the challenges anytime you want.

Our goal was to not put any resitrictions on you guys.

Oh, okay! And hey, here I was planning it out all organized! ;)

Hmm...I think I'll set up all the books for the challenge first and then see if I want to stick to the order. I kind of like that idea. I mean, if we go by the set order, then the anticipation for December will be UNBEARABLE! xD xD

I live by organization!

I like it. I planned to do it all in pretty much the same order. My reading plan for 2017 is easy breasy so if I can uncomplicate my reading process the better. I do not want to get behind again!

So December it is! That gives me time too, to find the book :D

Very wise! I have to (for the most part) because life is chaotic enough. I can go with the flow, but I'm also prepared. :)

Good, I think that makes sense because I can be a capricious reader and I like having some form of loose commitment that's not too stringent but is still there to help me to do it because I know I want to and having that plan will help me. I didn't meet my reading challenge of 100 books and I realized that having that 100 book mark made me read more, but I just ended up enjoying the books I enjoyed anyway, so, it's not about a number as much as the genre and the book selection itself.

:D Well, I found it at Fred Meyer (how funny is that? That's the slogan!) And it should be easy for you to find. eBay if you have to. :)
