I'm going to try like heck to complete an album at a time, but my reading can be kind of all over the place, so we'll see how I fare at that! I also review books for TNBBC's blog, so there's gonna be a TBR I'll be reading off of, which might make some specific album reading tasks hard to complete. Hence, the "challenge"!

I'm gonna list each album as its own post and only use one song title per book I read. In order of release.

Book1 - Glamshack is forthcoming from 7.13 Books in Summer/Fall. It fits in quite a few tasks, but I am going to try to complete albums by only applying one task to each book.

So, for this, I chose "Up the Hill Backwards" off the Scary Monsters album. This novel bounces back and forth between current time, a few months prior to this time, and 20 years in the past... all throughout the book.

(Glamshack - Paul Cohen)

Book2 - This is written by an author I know who is writing under a pseudonym in a genre that is completely out their (and my) norm. Don't know how many of those I will be reading this year, so i put it up against the task "Ziggy Stardust" off the THE RISE AND FALL OF ZIGGY STARDUST AND THE SPIDERS FROM MARS album.

(Shattered Illusions - Melissa Kendrick)

Book3 - this book centers around a fictional religious hotspot called The Host that is located in a fictional, walled off city called Aer. The hotspot is radioactive and the aeri, the people who live in this city, are literally killing themselves by living and worshiping there. That's why I placed this book against “Pallas Athena” off the BLACK TIE WHITE NOISE album.

(Totem - Darin Bradley)

Book4 - is a collection of nightmarish short stories and a few of them contain ventriloquist dummies. So this book perfectly squares up against "Slip Away" off the HEATHEN album.

(A Secret of Ventriloquism - Jon Padgett)

Book5 - is a book that is told from the pov of a ghost, and is a perfect fit for "Lazarus", off the BLACKSTAR album.

(Before - Carmen Boulossa)

Book6 - is all about an atari cartridge that comes to life and starts attacking a city, looking for someone to play its games. I threw it up against "New Angles of Promise" off the HOURS album.

(8 Bit Apocalypse - Amanda Billings)

Book7 - takes place in Los Angeles. So of course I placed it against "Black Tie, White Noise" from the same-named album.

(I Miss the World - Violet LeVoit)

Book8 - this one was easy to place. It's got a number in the title and fit perfectly against "Seven" off the HOURS album.

(21 Extremely Bad Breakups - Mark Leidner)

Book9 - threw it against “I Took a Trip on a Gemini Spacecraft” from the HEATHENS album because its about space travel.


(The Wanderers - Meg Howrey)

Book 10 was pretty easy to place. It's about two guys who take a bike path through some 'haunted' woods to see the legendary skeletons that are hanging up in the kudzu. So I put it up against "Outside" from the 1. OUTSIDE album.

(The Vine That Ate the South - JD Wilkes)

Book 11 - Had a couple of tasks I could put this against but settled for "Blue Jean" because, as a book that dedicated to music and has Mixtape in the title, I felt it had incredible throw-back potential!

(A Mixtape of Words - edited by Troy Palmer)

Book 12 - was put up against No Control off the 1. OUTSIDE album. This book was recommended to me by an author friend.

(The Expanse Between - Lee Krecklow)



Book 13 - was put up against Neighborhood Threat off the TONIGHT album. Because it deals with a black smoke that pollutes a town and turns the townspeople against one of its own.

(The Unmentionables - Lance Carbuncle)

Book 14 - Was a little tough to place. I ended up going with "I'll Take You There" off THE NEXT DAY (EXTRA) album.

(The One Inside - Sam Shepard)

Book 15 - This book isn't added to goodreads yet and has an anticipated release date of October. It takes place in both Chicago and England, so it's a perfect fit for "Don't Look Down" off the TONIGHT album.

(Travels and Travails of Small Minds - Daniel Falatko)

Book 16 - Because this book is basically one major dream (the character is cursed and floats between worlds, never sure if he is alive or dead), I felt it was a perfect match up for "If I am Dreaming my Life" off the HOURS album.

(The Drop Edge of Yonder - Rudolph Wurlitzer)

Book 17 - it doesn't just begin with a verb... the title IS a verb.

(Sip - Brian Allen Carr)

Book 18 - It's written by a female, told from two female points of view, it's post-apocalyptic, AND characters die. Man this was a hard one to choose just one task for. But I ended up going with "So She" off the NEXT DAY (EXTRA) album.

(The Book of Joan - Lidia Yuknavitch)

Book 19 - Ever since i first heard about Jeff Vandermeer's newest novel, I tried everything I could to get my hands on it, and get my hands on it, I did! It's the perfect book to use against "I've Been Waiting For You" off the HEATHEN album.

Book 20 - could have placed against a few different tasks. It's kind of a ghost story, it deals with a loss of a family member... ultimately, I placed it against "Everyone Says Hi" off the HEATHEN album.

Book 21 - could have fit anywhere. It's got drug abuse, it's got an unlucky character who can't seem to catch a break, it's got a murder... But I ended up going with "Tonight" off the TONIGHT album just to get one book closer to completing an album!

(The Weight of This World - David Joy)

Book 22 - oh my god if there was a better title to use for this book, I don;t know what it is. I put this one up against "Jump They Say" off the BLACK TIE WHITE NOISE album, because it deals with a father who jumps from a bridge, committing suicide.
