Sarah Churchill (sarahchurchill) | 63 comments Argh, the tension's building already! That prologue was really exciting, I really enjoyed that and it got the momentum going straight away. Particularly like the addition of the new characters. So far so good! Though I think I can probably see what's coming at the end already, I'm still excited for all the inevitable action (and deaths!) :P

Iona (ionaenglish) I have a problem with a bit of Clare's world building. In chapter 3 there's a part where Clary is thinking about how there's no runes to help people with suffering or to make people fall in love. What I don't get is if Clary really is this rune making machine who can just pull runes out of her head with immense power to destroy things or to make people fearless then why can't she affect other emotions? It's just a bit inconsistent and it kind of bugged me. Like, it's all fine if rune's can't change human emotion at all but that's not Clare went with so I dunno, that tangent she went on kind of bugged me. And also what's the point in having runes for mourning if they don't actually have any power they just 'honour the dead'. What does that even mean? Sorry for the rambling :p

Daisy (AThousandLivesOfDaisy) (daisydinosaur_) | 18 comments Iona I can see your point there - it's something I considered when I heard about the fearless rune in previous books because fear is kinda an emotion. I think sometimes there are loop holes (I've noticed other times it has happened) occasionally. I think it's almost like the marriage and mourning runes are more there for show ect.
