Jennifer Strand (jenniferstrand) | 7 comments I'm Jen and live in a suburb of Minneapolis, MN. I'm married with three children (a 16, 14 and 10 year old) and am a Sales Engineer for a firm that provides construction management software. Luckily I function on very little sleep because I love to read into the wee hours of the night after everyone is tucked into bed.

I enjoy reading all types of fiction but especially love Young Adult, Romance and the angst of New Adult.

My personal goal is to hit 180 books this year.

Nicole | 67 comments Hi yall! I'm Nicole.. soon to be 39. I'm a Paramedic in Tennessee. I just finished and passed CCT which means I'm a Critical Care Transport Medic. Last year I fell way short on my goal. Life happened and well I just didn't have it in me. BUT..... I'm determined for 2017 to be better all the way around... I demand it to be ☺. I've made wonderful ppl online through reading and I consider each of them friends. They have helped me more than they know even tho I've been distant. 2017 bring it!

message 3: by Marissa (new)

Marissa | 2 comments Hi everyone! I'm Marissa, a stay-at-home-cat-Mom and military wife. My hometown is Philly, PA, but I've lived in Shreveport, LA (the land of Sookie Stackhouse), and 3 years in northern Japan. I now reside in Goldsboro, NC with my awesome hubby and fur baby.

Once I discovered fantasy books at a young age, there has been no stopping me! I read literally everywhere, including pools while on vacation.

I can't wait to see what everyone is reading this year!

message 4: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Rivas | 5 comments Happy New Year everyone! I'm really excited to be joining you all in this challenge! I'm known for starting all kinds of projects but hardly ever finishing one! This year I am determinded to FINISH what I start and that includes this challenge!

Now a little bit about me. I am a single mother to a spirited 9 1\2 year old girl! Have to put the 1\2 in there cause it's very important at this age!

message 5: by Ankit (new)

Ankit Mishra (ankit_cheeni) | 2 comments Hi everyone, this is Ankit from Ghaziabad, India. It's a city near New Delhi, the capital of India. I'm majoring in Mechanical Engineering and I'm in my penultimate year. Though the engineering course is a bit tiresome, but I try to read as much as I can. I am not sure of 104 books(I didn't even think of such a feat before finding this group) but with such motivated people like you all, I guess I'd be a learning experience and hopefully, I'll complete the challange.

NICOLE! So glad you're here, girl! You've had a pretty eventful year and I'm so excited about your CCT announcement. I think that makes me cool by association?

Hi, Amanda! So glad you're here! And I love the 1/2, lol. It IS important at that age. Good luck with the challenge this year! You can TOTALLY do it!

Hello, Ankit! You've got a busy schedule! Well, regardless of whether or not you read 104 books, we'll all have a lot of fun trying to do so, right? Welcome!

message 10: by Kim (new)

Kim (secretmagic) | 17 comments Hello! I'm Kim and I live in Sydney, Australia. I work in book publishing, but that has not helped me with my challenges for 2016! I didn't join the group last time, because I failed in 2015 so I was a bit down - but I'm going to give it another try in 2017!

And since it's now New Years Eve in good old Australia, it's probably a good time to join up!

message 11: by Tamara (new)

Tamara (authortamarab) | 69 comments Hi everyone and thanks to Jennifer for the group invite! I already know some of you, but for the rest, my name is Tamara, I'm 20 years old and live in Zagreb, Croatia. I'm a History student, but reading and writing have been my main passions for a quite a few years now and I do hope 2017 will be another year of plenty of new, amazing books read.
I'll try to be as active on here as I can and I'm crossing my fingers for everyone else here to accomplish this goal!
Also, since the day is quickly approaching, I'm just going to wish everyone a tad bit early Happy New Year!

message 12: by Deanne (new)

Deanne (deanne33) | 176 comments Hello everyone! I'm Deanne, a Youth Services librarian in the great state of New Mexico. I mostly read romance for myself but also young adult and middle grade for work. I love this challenge because it's the only place to keep track of all the books I reread over and over and over. Have fun reading!

message 13: by Sarah Bella (new)

Sarah Bella | 3 comments Hey all! I'm a 36 year old married mother of three (13, 11 & 8). By day I run a construction company, by night I'm a fledgling romance author.

message 14: by Claire (new)

Claire | 1 comments Claire from jolly UK here again. 2016 was my first fail. Must try harder. I'm a domestic godess hanging out in a *cough* sunny corner of Kent. Thankfully my hubby got me a new kindle for Christmas soi am showing my utmost appreciation by using a lot. Roll 2017. It's going to be epic in my little book world.

message 15: by Lyssa (new)

Lyssa | 112 comments Hello! Lyssa from California here. Love my sci-fi, memoirs and travel writing. Just checked, and I've been doing this challenge since 2011 - has it really been that long?? Just did the epic career switch in 2016 from medical administration to teaching. The credential should be in hand in a few weeks and then it's time to .... job hunt! Yay. :/ This also means I will be delving into YA so I can develop a class library and keep up with what my future students are reading.

Set and met a personal goal of 75 books last year since there was so much going on. Since I'm just chock full of free time now, I'm going to be optimistic and try for 110 this year (still have my Master's classes to do in a few weeks - eek).

I've always found books here that I wouldn't normally have picked up on my own, and looking forward to finding more hidden gems this year.

message 16: by Judy (new)

Judy (shellseeker) | 11 comments Hi everyone! I'm Judy and live in Missouri with my cat. I didn't join the group last year for reasons that I can't remember, but I'm glad to be back. I've been trying to broaden my reading horizons the past few years. To that end, I also just joined Emma Watson's book group here on Goodreads. I have a habit of joining things and then not following through, but am determined to do better this year. And hopefully find books and authors that I wouldn't have otherwise.

message 17: by Monica (new)

Monica (marticles) | 27 comments Hi all!
I'm glad to be back in 2017 for a new reading challenge!
I'm a nearly-40 (ouch, that hurts to admit) Media Assistant at my local high school, and director of a county historical non-profit (unless the county decides not to fund me in 2017).
I live in central MN with a hubby and 3 kids (15, 12 & 10).
I'm part of a book club that meets every-other month and rarely reads its books, so it's nice to connect with others about books/reading.
This/last year, I managed to read/listen to 175 books of mostly fluff. This year, I'm going to focus on reading through the unread books waiting on my shelf.
I really like classics, fantasy and sci-fi but almost always fall back on the old reliable romance these days. Working with teens, I also keep up with YA (which is really just an excuse- I'd read it anyway).

I look forward to succeeding at our goals together!!!!

message 18: by Mary (new)

Mary (mary_qp) | 107 comments Hi! I'm Mary from PA. During the day I work at a loan company. At night I'm usually asleep by 8:30. Last year life happened in big way and I barely squeaked by making my 100 goal by reading my husband's graphic novels. I know already 2017 is going to be a busy year so I'm setting my goal lower at 75. Good luck everyone!

message 19: by Lindsay (new)

Lindsay (crowshollow) Hello! I'm Lindsay, this is my 4th year I think. Last year was kind of a storm of poop and busyness etc. so I didn't make my goal. This year I am hoping to be more active and to read more.

Wow! Congratulations on earning your certificate! Good luck with the job search!

message 21: by Mary (new)

Mary (mccanniff) | 3 comments Hi! This is Mary, I live in Eastern PA with my family and dogs. I love sff, mystery, manga, YA, non-fiction (especially "year of" books), and what my children (7 and 13 now!) and kids (7th graders) are reading. Thanks Jen for setting this up once again- I really appreciate having a spot to keep track of what I read and hearing about what others are reading.

message 22: by Aydrea (new)

Aydrea | 3 comments Hi I'm Aydrea and I live in St. Paul, MN and I am a paralegal. I love reading! Sadly I failed the 2016 challenge, but to be fair I spent a good amount of my year house searching. I normally read a lot, so hopefully I can get back on track this year! I am aiming for more than 104.

message 23: by Aydrea (new)

Aydrea | 3 comments Oh and I read pretty much only YA of all genres, occasionally I'll read some adult urban fantasy.

message 25: by Zach (new)

Zach Hi everyone! I'm Zach from Montana, I set a reading goal of 52 books last year and failed miserably, 2016 was a rough year for me all around, and when I saw this group I thought why lower my goal, I'm gonna double it and go for the 104! I may not reach every goal I set for myself in 2017, but I am going to try my best and have a good year!

message 26: by Sanjana (new)

Sanjana Ghosh (sanjanag) Hey everyone, I'm Sanjana from Pune, India. I'm in my last semester of Engineering. I did set a challenge of reading 100 books last year but could only complete 60. I am not giving up and set the goa for 100 again for this year, Fingers crossed :P

message 28: by elin (new)

elin (elinsbooks) Hi!

My name is Elin. I'm a librarian in western Pennsylvania. Last year I set a goal of 150 books and just made it. I'm hoping that this year I can reach at least that many again. I join groups like these because I tend to read the stuff I like and don't venture out as much as I should. So that's a goal with this challenge, to read outside of my book comfort zone. Good luck all!

message 29: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 26 comments HI Everyone,

I am Sarah. I am a mom of 3 and am a Human Resources Consultant from Florida. I keep getting better and better at trying to reach my goal of 104 each year (this is my 3rd year doing this challenge). Last year I reached half way!

message 30: by Wanda (new)

Wanda | 1 comments I am Wanda, mother of two wonderful kids. My son is away in college and my daughter is currently living with me. I am a Mental Health Counselor and an avid reader. I am new to goodreads and I love it. One of my resolutions this year is to read more. My goal 25 but I wish I will be able to reach 100. I am looking forward to get to know all of you better. I wish you all the best!

Patricia Talley | 13 comments Hello Everyone, My name is Patricia and I am an addict. I have been a book addict since childhood. I have felt like I should be in a "group" for a while now, but I an not really a joiner. Found this group and it is not overwhelming with so many members. Anyway, I am retired, kids are gone (3) and reading is the only thing that gets me outta my head. (Former Control Freak learning to control the freakishness) Today is 2-12-17 and I will start the 104 book challenge as of today. I won't count the one I finished this morning, (Christopher Moore, The Lust Lizard of Melancholy Cove, fantastic!) I will only count the ones I finish after joining. (I have binged and read 8 books in 7 days over 300 pages each.) Currently reading Mercy Thompson River Marked #6 Patricia Briggs. Not really thrilled with them so far. I guess after reading her Hurog, Siam and Raven duologys and The Hob, I expected better. ANYWAY, I am thrilled to be a part of your group, Thank you everyone!

message 32: by Crina (new)

Crina | 1 comments Hello everyone! My name is Crina. I am a book worm, i like to read all the books that come into my hands. I am a law student, i am suposed to like reading books who are more suitable for my future job but I can't help and I love to discover more and more categories of novels. It's my little passion that keeps me awake at night. I am verry happy to be a part of this group. I will start the challenge from...today. I wish you all the best and good luck on finishing the challenge!

message 34: by Prabidh (new)

Prabidh Sharma | 1 comments I am a person who always falls asleep when I start reading a book. I can barely finish a page or two from a book. So in 2016, I challenged myself to read as many books as I can. By the end of the year, I read ten books from various genres – romantic, fiction, and autobiography as well as some philosophical books. I also started my blog (www.prabidh.com) and a Facebook page (http://facebook.com/prabidh) as a medium to share my thoughts. 2016 has been an entirely different year than I expected it to be. I think it has changed me a lot. In 2016, I also realized what I want to do with my life and how I want to move forward. It gave me a vision, a path, and a motive. I found out who I want to be.

Now, it is a new year. In 2017, I want to challenge myself to continue my New Year Resolution from 2016 and read 50 books by the end of 2017. This year I don’t want my New Year Resolution to just be about myself. I want to challenge myself to come up with small or big ideas to change our world, and I want to implement those ideas into the reality. I would also like to challenge everyone reading this to do the same. I think reading and sharing my thoughts, views and encouraging others will give me an opportunity to do so. I have established a nice platform through my facebook and blog in order to achieve what I want to, help others - BE A PART OF CHANGE.

I have been reading a lot this year and so, I thought I need to write as well. I'd appreciate if you guys read my first article.

Kajoli Barker Conner | 7 comments Better late than never? I never knew there were groups, but I was mousing around and found this one, so thought I'd hop in and give it a try. This is my second time trying a 104 book challenge (nobody else I know is so ambitious, so I'm excited to find a group of similarly dedicated readers). I am a high school Calculus teacher, and the fall semester is nuts. When we started school I was 8 books ahead, and when I looked at my challenge mid-October, I was 8 books behind! I have almost caught back up (I am 2 books behind, but should finish a paper book and an audiobook today, so... yay! Thanksgiving break should provide an opportunity to power through a few books and build up a small cushion. I enjoy fantasy, sci-fi, historical fiction (so long as it's not romance-in-disguise), literary fiction (in moderation) and non-fiction, particularly scientific topics.
Oh... I live in the San Diego area with my husband and many cats. I have three adult daughters, and participate in a viking-age living history group.
