While I could put
by Roshani Chokshi under authors I admire (I met her and she's lovely), I think that this book is better suited here.
It's a little hard to describe. Maya has a cursed horoscope, making her the black sheep of her family and the least likely to be married. Under a turn of events, she marries Amar whom is a Raja responsible for a thousand doors and many secrets. Maya finds herself having to put trust in herself and asking if she can put trust in Amar.
It's very fantasy and myth-based. I'm always a little picky on my fantasy, which I don't read often anyways, so this definitely fits here.

Yes, this was a bestseller over a decade ago, but I'm counting it!
The only genre I shy away from is romance because my motto is, "Why just have a love story when you can have a love story ... with dragons?!"

But truly, Boy Meets Boy was a beautiful book with the very traditional awkward teenage encounters with feelings. By creating a near-utopian society of acceptance, Levithan was able to focus on the love story between Paul and Noah without the interference of a closed-minded society. This alone was wonderful to behold!
That's hilarious!
I'm also a bit dodgy with romance, but I think it was I got turned off to it for a bit as I felt it was one of those things books were surrounding themselves around for a bit. I guess those things come in waves (zombie, Dystopians, sorting into houses/teams/parties). That being said, I still don't actively seek out romance either I guess. Fantasy is a bit picky for me too.

The Adventures of Captain Underpants is not a type of book that I normally read... and with good reason I guess. I absolutely hated this book and hope that I never have to read it to my son.

Re-reading this comment, Melissa you need to go read The Last Namsara. Plenty of dragons ^_^
And Kari, you say that now...but I bet he'll discover it at some point :)

That cover looks awesome! And the first line is brilliant! (Whenever I get stuck in a reading rut, I often just read a million first lines of books until one catches me; this would be one that catches me.)
Thank you for the rec!

That cover is what lured me in! Here's to hoping the series' covers stay awesome!
