a book with a red spine

(This reminds me of work when someone asks for a book that "had a red cover." :D )

I want to put this book on another list (hell, every list), but it very much fits right here. I read A Gathering of Shadows (Shades of Magic, #2) by V.E. Schwab by V.E. Schwab <3 <3 <3

I cannot stop recommending this series to anyone who will listen! It's a series that's sort of fantasy, sort of magical realism. This is the second in the ADSOM series. The first one begins with Kell, an antari- or magic weilder- who is close enough to human but is tasked with carrying letters and correspondence between 4 Londons. Pardon, 3 Londons. Some time before the story starts, black London was closed off because the magic had consumed it with its power. So, Kell travels between his London (red) where magic thrives and is common, White London- where its people kill one another to gather magic and claim the thrown, and Grey London- where magic is an old fable. Here is where Lila lives. A thief that wants to be a pirate. When their paths cross, the whole game changes. AGOS takes place 4 months after all of that.

I cannot ..."

I clicked here to add my own title and what should I see but another V.E. Schwab rec! I really really should get on trying another book of hers, since I'm enjoying Monsters of Verity so much. Vicious is on my to-read list!

Melissa (readinthecorner) | 108 comments Ginny Moon by Benjamin Ludwig

Ginny Moon featured a strong heroine with Autism Spectrum Disorder; not many characters could see her immense courage in the face of her struggles from adjusting to life in a foster home, but the readers viewed everything from her perspective, getting the full story from the extraordinary to the tragic.

While the story was incredibly powerful, the plot arc was much too predictable, leaving little room for the suspense that the author intended. Many readers will still certainly appreciate the emotional connection.

All of the above!!

I started with TSS (and loved it) and then did what I never do- I back read her others books! I then tried ADSOM and loved that too. While waiting for the paperback for AGOS (which was SO hard!) I read Vicious. I think I liked that one, I really liked the characters- it just took me a little while to sink into. Though i loved the back and forth narrative, it kept things moving. I may have to reread it before book 2 comes out...After that, I read AGOS and ACOL shortly after. I just finished ODD yesterday. Schwab has become my favourite author, hands down.

So yes, get on all of those lol.
