How did I not put Our Dark Duet (Monsters of Verity, #2) by Victoria Schwab by Victoria Schwab here?
I read TSS last year and got so sucked in by her writing style that I back read everything she wrote. I don't normally backread- there's too much coming out presently that I have to stay current for work.
Because of TSS & Owlcrate, I discover A Darker Shade of Magic which is now my favourite book series (next to Harry Potter, don't worry!)

ODD is the sequel and series finale to TSS. We continue to follow Kate and August as the monsters get darker and a new one has emerged. ODD begs the question "what is humanity made of?" and "Can we really change our core selves?" It's full of action and a fantastic follow up. Also music + monsters = AWESOME

This is a challenge that kind of stumped me. Who do I admire in the world of literature? I ended up selecting Rick Riordan; this author has been incredibly progressive in his character diversity and the respectful depiction of different cultures, lifestyles, and peoples as his work has continued.

Most notably, his book The Hammer of Thor won the Stonewall Award for the representation of a gender fluid teen (and a pretty awesome one at that). I literally cried with happiness when I found out as I was so excited for readers to be exposed to such a positive role model from an underrepresented group.

This year I read the final in the Magnus Chase series, The Ship of the Dead, and I loved it!

Rick Riordan is my hero for reluctant readers and now a personal favorite author!
