I put this book on my TBR, took it off, then put it back on. Then fortuitously, my library had it on these little little audiobook players (does anyone else's library check these out? http://playaway.com/ they are great!). Anyway, I was traveling and sometimes it takes forever to get audiobooks through overdrive in, so I thought I'd give it a try. And I'm glad I did!
This book is different from others I've read. It's not plot driven. There isn't really an overarching story or progression. It's kind of an exploration of one person, Lucy Barton, and how life experiences and her family have shaped her. There are vignettes throughout that go back and forth in time some are about her and some you learn something about her based on her interpretation of the event. These are all very well done and interesting. I enjoyed this kind of haphazard way of a "story" unfolding. It's not really a page turner but it is short and moves quickly. I listened to the audio for this and the voice is calm and matter of fact throughout, which fit the story for me. I wasn't so sure this book was for me, but in the end I really enjoyed it a lot.
