Same, it's one of my favourite of all time!

What did you think of the ending? Do you believe (view spoiler)[that it was all real (hide spoiler)] or do you think (view spoiler)[it was all a hallucination or a way of coping with the situation (hide spoiler)]?

I have been wanting to read this book for a while and now that I’ve read it I’m glad I did. It’s a really interesting story and I can see it being studies in schools as it’s multi-layered and offers an interesting viewpoint on religion for one.

I’m not sure what to think in regards to whether (view spoiler)[he was on the boat with animals or on the boat with humans as he would often talk about seeing his family again when he was giving the animal narrative yet the human narrative seems entirely plausible, though rather extreme (it sounded like the cook turned to cannibalism rather too quickly). Humans can be awful when it comes to survival. I did find it interesting though how the report from the Japanese at the end shows that they decided to go with the animal version in the end, despite how ludicrous they thought it was initially. I guess they found it easier to imagine animals eating each other rather than humans doing it, as probably will most of us. (hide spoiler)]

I feel there is so much more to say about this book, with its take on religion and the darkness within the human mind, but right this moment my brain is not working properly so…
