Well so far I am really loving this book. I love the short chapters because they make the pacing really go quickly even though not too much has happened yet.

I am loving the use of descriptive language to really make me not just see what's going on but smell and hear. I've always heard that when someone is blind their other senses are heightened and I feel like Anthony Doerr is writing so that we can feel those heightened senses in the reading.

What do you think so far?

Stephanie (estephb21) | 6 comments So i'm reading this on my kindle so it's hard to tell where I am early, but I know I am somewhere in section 1. I also love the short chapters! I am loving the female characters story, broke my heart to see her learning everything in a different way (turning blind). I absolutely love her father! I never wanted to really wanted to read a book that has that transition in it because I knew it would be sad, but I am thankful that I am reading about it now. Not too fond of the male character story line yet, maybe I need to get farther in it. I guess it's partly my fault for trying to read with kids around me and not able to fully focus on it. I'm only 15% into the book now, not sure where that lands me since the kindle doesn't have page numbers on it.
You are right he does great with the descriptions in the story, very detailed. Interested to see where this will be going. Trying really hard to read when I can.
