CaptKirk42 Classic Whovian (klandersen) | 455 comments Well last year 2016 fizzled out. I only achieved 10 of 15 no medal for '16. Not sure what goal I will set for this year. If I was excited about the year I would set the goal high, if I am unsure of the year I would set the bar way lower. I should have set 2016 low, but in January when you set things up you don't know how enthusiastic you will be about somethings.

well for now my cross-over book I am still reading from last year to this year is Hello from Heaven: A New Field of Research-After-Death Communication Confirms That Life and Love Are Eternal
Hello from Heaven A New Field of Research-After-Death Communication Confirms That Life and Love Are Eternal by Bill Guggenheim
The status for this is 127/416 pages 31% Not too bad but I started it 12 Oct 2016 and last update was 26 Nov 2016 *BIG Sigh*
----------

Executive Decision I set my personal 2017 reading challenge to 13 books, Goodreads was suggesting 12 two more than what I read last year, five less than that year goal.

----------------------

Read This Year
Man in the Empty Suit by Sean Ferrell Hello from Heaven A New Field of Research-After-Death Communication Confirms That Life and Love Are Eternal by Bill Guggenheim The Librarians and the Lost Lamp (The Librarians #1) by Greg Cox No Time Like the Past by Greg Cox You Gotta Have Heart A History of Washington Baseball from 1859 to the 2012 National League East Champions by Frederic J. Frommer
The Librarians and the Mother Goose Chase (The Librarians, #2) by Greg Cox Silver Screen Fiend Learning About Life from an Addiction to Film by Patton Oswalt Ted Williams, My Father A Memoir by Claudia Williams Doctor Who Human Nature by Paul Cornell Redshirts by John Scalzi

Cap, you read some very heavy books so I would not wory about being boged down sometimes!

I'm not too worried. I prefer to read for the enjoyment of it not the speed of reaching a goal. Mostly I have enjoyed the "clunkers". It just frustrates me that I over-estimated for my personal goal. I haven't set a goal for this year yet. Goodreads is suggesting 12 books, two more than last year and a few less than my norm. Not sure yet if this is one of my "push" years were I get super hyped about reading almost every book I touch or if it will be a ho-hum year like the end of last year.

Man in the Empty Suit by Sean Ferrell

Challenge Widget is now 1/13 8% on track.

I liked the book gave it 4 of 5 stars it technically is more like 3.8 The ending was a little anti-climatic. I was a tiny bit disappointed with how, where it ended but on the other hand wasn't demanding or expecting anything special.

Judging by your group name, you like classic sci-fi. Who is your favourite Doctor?
I like Tom Baker the best of all of them.

I like all of them. That question to me is like asking or mother who has more than one child which of her children is her favorite. My top Doctors are: Peter Capaldi, Tom Baker, David Tennant, Sylvester McCoy, Matt Smith, Jon Pertwee.

Next read is all ready fated: (haven't officially started or switched to "currently reading")
The Librarians and the Lost Lamp

I started watching Doctor Who when Jon Pertwee was the Doctor and I am pretty sure it was The Pyramids of Mars. My younger daughter and her husband are big Doctor Who fans as well.
Enjoy your next book.

Um "The Pyramids of Mars" is a Tom Baker Episode and one of my ALL-TIME Fave episodes.

Thanks for the correction. So I wonder which episode it was? And it is one of my favourite episodes too.

CaptKirk42 Classic Whovian (klandersen) | 455 comments Got my copy of Star Trek: No Time Like the Past by Greg Cox from Ebay. Might as well start reading it as my distraction from when I'm stalled on my Baseball book.
No Time Like the Past (Star Trek The Original Series) by Greg Cox

CaptKirk42 Classic Whovian (klandersen) | 455 comments Going to try to continue with You Gotta Have Heart: A History of Washington Baseball from 1859 to the 2012 National League East Champions
You Gotta Have Heart A History of Washington Baseball from 1859 to the 2012 National League East Champions by Frederic J. Frommer

Read 11 more pages now up to page 22. I've got to be in a mood to read about sports history, even political or military history I need to be in a certain historic mood for it. Baseball history I need to also be in the baseball mood. I think trying to start it off-season was part of my problem with starting it.

CaptKirk42 Classic Whovian (klandersen) | 455 comments Picked up a couple of books at my neighborhood Dollar Tree:

This one I started reading: Ted Williams, My Father: A Memoir
Ted Williams, My Father A Memoir by Claudia Williams

I also got this one because the synopsis sounded fun. It is the second book of a series so I need to go back to see if I can get the first book (I think I saw it there as well)
The Madness Underneath
The Madness Underneath (Shades of London, #2) by Maureen Johnson

CaptKirk42 Classic Whovian (klandersen) | 455 comments Picked up two more books from my Dollar Tree. They didn't have any other books from that "Shades of London" series so I'll have to get those from other sources. I checked another dollar store nearby a Family Dollar, which is having a massive sale (they are technically a "discount" store as some of their items are more than a Dollar, up to $5 I think, maybe some stuff is more I'm not sure but that is one of the reasons I rarely go to that chain) They didn't have any books, well they had some kids books, and coloring books for kids, but no real book section.

So the two I picked up are:
A Million Ways to Die in the West
A Million Ways to Die in the West by Seth MacFarlane
Yes it is based on the movie.

and book two is:
Silver Screen Fiend: Learning About Life from an Addiction to Film
Silver Screen Fiend Learning About Life from an Addiction to Film by Patton Oswalt
I am familiar with Patton Oswalt from his appearances on Marvel: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Lynnette | 166 comments I see you read Star Trek novels and watch Agent sof S. H. I. E. D. Do you read of the DC-Marvel prose novels? My son has gotten me hooked on them; however they are not created equal. Some authors are good; others not so much.

It has been about 20 years since I've read any DC or Marvel Novels. I read "The Further Adventures of Batman" and "The Further Adventures of The Joker" books which were short story collections really, not full length novels. For a long time it seemed like Graphic Novels from both DC and Marvel along with other brands were popular, now it seems any format is popular.

Lynnette | 166 comments My son is the Ultimate Baseball fan. Was your Baseball book a good one?

CaptKirk42 Classic Whovian (klandersen) | 455 comments Lynnette wrote: "My son is the Ultimate Baseball fan. Was your Baseball book a good one?"
Yes it was. It is a good general history of professional baseball in DC. It has the UPS and the mostly Downs up until 2012 when the DC team returned to the playoffs after many years of disappointing losing seasons and 33 years of NO baseball at all. It was published in 2013 so it is a few years old and they have made the playoffs a few more times since publication. I'd say for fans of DC Baseball it is a must read, for casual baseball history fans and baseball fans in general it is an interesting read, but not necessarily a must for them, but I think baseball history buffs will like it.

CaptKirk42 Classic Whovian (klandersen) | 455 comments I'm like 3 books behind. Wow I looked at when I started the book I have just now finished. Technically I started reading it back in late April, However I went 2 or 3 months still on page 8. So I re-read the first 9 pages and caught up about 4 months ago. Been reading it off and on. Sometimes I'd go a few days to about a week without cracking it open, other times I'd read 10-20+ pages a day.
So now I am at:
