In the near future a half million colonists from Earth arrive in a solar system that isn't as unoccupied or hospitable as anticipated. Artificial beings acting on their ancient programming threaten to destroy the colonists. Members of the Colonial Security Force struggle to overcome the threat and in turn discover that humanity's distant origins lie on this world and the ancient aliens that once called it home.
