The Beginning of the End (Zombie RP) discussion

Having an indecisive moment and opening a poll today with around four cities to choose from. Basically I kind of decided I wanted to set the main safezone in Canada, so something in closer proximity might be a good idea (my manic thought process was reeled out on chat) and then I watched sleepless in Seattle and someone else suggested Chicago (and I clearly love polls...) so anways here's our options;

Hey, so I'm thinking of setting up a social news style folder where people (in character) can post different thoughts on what is happening in the initial days of the outbreak. Maybe radio stations, character blog posts, twitter feeds? All talking about strange occurrences and the beginning of this zombie outbreak?

Obviously once we announce that the grid has gone down, those communications will cease (except maybe the odd radio station?) but it might be quite an interesting dynamic to have characters express their opinions like that. Maybe even more interesting if characters are talking about other character blogs, tweets or news updates as they happen?

I'm definitely going to set up a news feed alongside the story progression thread, just to keep people up to date in a way that is more relevant to their characters...but what do you guys think?

It's going to be inspired mostly by Misfits with a little bit of Sense8. Basically a storm over the city gives superpowers to a group of strangers who then find themselves emotionally bound together. They then have to work around their new abilities and avoid the threat of hostile Vanquish agents who are trying to capture them and harvest their powers...

Don't let me make anymore groups after that guys, I need to focus on the ones I have

I don't think I've watched Misfits, but I will start today~

It's really good, the first series cast especially are amazing! And the powers they get are so obscure, it's brilliant! Also Ruth Negga, Robert Sheehan, Iwan Rheon and Antonia Thomas, so good!

How many days of calm before things go to total crap? Does this sound about right?

Day 1 - Relative normality, news reports talking about a virus outbreak in Chicago

Day 2 - News outlets advise people to stay indoors if they're feeling ill, first zombie sightings witnessed but attributed to drugs, alcohol etc...

Day 3 - Most characters have now witnessed something strange, ambling individuals, people coming back from the dead, animal carcasses picked clean. The non-serious radio stations start to joke about the *zombie apocalypse*

Day 4 - Videos of so called 'zombies' attacking people have been shared in the internet, news outlets are playing it off as a hoax. Police are dealing with individual cases as they happen (they have their work cut out!)

Day 5 - Government are calling secret emergency meetings to discuss ongoing circumstances. States across America are experiencing similar circumstances, Chicago is reportedly worst hit.

Day 6 - People are starting to question what is going on, town councils and city hall attempt to dispel rumours, but kids are sent home early from school, and people advised not to leave the house after dark.

Day 7 - Notable military and police presence. Schools and work places are starting to shut, people advised to stay indoors.

Day 8- Military invade homes and take away anyone who appears to be ill or suffering bite wounds. Riots start on the city streets and people are forcibly returned to their homes. Power keeps dropping.

Day 9 - People start to leave, heading North and into the countryside against the advice to stay put. Families split up, friends depart and people feel uneasy.

Day 10 - A Quarantine zone is introduced in the inner city, military start advising people to leave their homes and become more forcible when people don’t listen. Most start to make their way there, though obviously not everyone. Military take to the streets and shoot anyone that appears ‘infected’.

Day 11 - The Quarantine zone is running smoothly, but is a bit like a war camp, people feel like prisoners. Everyone is regularly screened, anyone seemingly ill, violent or anyone who steps out of line is locked up. People inside start to panic, the radio and news reports from the outside world are wholly negative.

Day 12 - Food rations are dished out in the Quarantine zone, but theres a sense of unease about how quickly it will run out. A couple of infected breach the fence line and are killed by soldiers. The fences are reinforced.

Day 13 - Anyone out on the streets is now being shot on sight by military, the infection is taking hold and the risks are high. News reports have pretty much ceased and only one or two radio stations are getting words out to the public. Electricity and phone lines have gone down on the outside, only generators and old comms/military comms are working now.

Day 14 - Silence from other military barracks, sense of disquiet amongst the military staff and more disruption when the inhabitants of the Quarantine zone realise sick people are being killed to save medication and those who are locked up are being denied medical treatment/ adequate food resources .

Day 15 - Word comes in that the other Quarantine zones have collapsed. People start to panic and rumours spread that the entire state will be wiped out to prevent the spread of infection. People within the quarantine zone start to riot and several people escape.

Day 16 - Quarantine zone collapses, full out chaos ensues there are zombies everywhere. The military are grappling for control shooting zombies and potentially infected humans alike, people scramble to leave the city.

Day 17 - We’re mostly here now, this is the apocalypse, they’ll probably start shelling the city in the next few days to try and control the infection ( it’s not going to work)

Yeah I feel you, maybe an extra day between both? Gives characters more time to arrive there and also get to know each other? I suppose some can escape if they totally hate it?

Okay I've edited in a couple of extra days to account for more issues, tbh when we're rping it, it will probably be dragged out a little longer anyway

I think between Day 3 and Day 4 would prolly be like three days. Because they'd try to contain public knowledge and start screening stuff

So Uni-wise do we think Central Washington University or Washington State University...

One's a two hour drive from Seattle, the other is four~

But the other options are like a thirty minute drive and I feel like Ben could use his own mini quest to go and get Natalie so that feels too close, you know?
