Book 1 left off with Sam's family coming to join him. Book two starts with all of them leaving except his younger sister, Alice. What follows is an adventurous trek through the mountains with all kinds of tidbits of knowledge of plants and hiking lore.

I think I enjoyed this a little more than the first one, actually, because the adventure wasn't all in one place. It was a journey, a chase, with some neat rabbit trails along the way.
