Murakami is an excellent writer, however I struggled to follow the imagery and symbolism throughout this book (while still enjoying the writing!). To fully appreciate, I may need to re-read in the future. Kafka has similar structure (two threads) and approach as Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki. Norwegian Wood, The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle and South of the Border, West of the Sun are still my favorites.

I feel the same after I finished this book, though I still enjoyed reading it. Will try to read a few more Murakami books first then maybe come back and read this again

wow, maybe Miyazaki should consider adapting this book into an animated movie
