Constant Reader discussion

To all who are considering coming to Asheville on Sept. 28th through 30th for our annual meeting, please let me know here. I'm starting the process of looking at hotels, and I need to know how many rooms to book. If you don't need a room, let me know that too.

I'm thinking about it as positively as I can, Sherry. There may be one or two factors that will make it difficult to impossible for me to attend. I hope not.

Thanks for hosting! Last Asheville convention, I believe, was in the fall of 2007, just a month after I had joined the group. Didn't know what to think about all that at the time, but the meeting in Santa Fe the next year was so amazing that I became a CR for life.

Lovely to have a ten-year reunion.

Hubby and I are hoping to attend, still trying to see if it will be workable. I don't like the thought of flying, because too many obstacles.

Vic and I plan to attend.

Sherry, I'm hoping to attend with my husband Jay, although we may not be able to make it into Asheville until the 29th. My daughter works for IHG (the hotel group which owns Holiday Inn Express and Hotel Indigo, among others), so she may be able to help with room scheduling/room rates. Let me know if you want me to ask her.

That's nice to know, Deborah. Hotel Indigo was one of the hotels I was going to contact. I'll let you know if I need her help.

p.s. I stayed at a brand new Hotel Indigo in Atlanta last summer and it was very nice!

Maybe you and I could share, Lyn. I can't commit definitely right now, but I sure want to come.

I'm planning on staying at the hotel. Tom says he'll stay home. Maybe we could get a big enough room for three?

Deborah, does your daughter have any connection with the hotel Aloft in Asheville? That one is positioned perfectly for walking around.

I'd be happy to share with either Sherry or Ruth, or both of you if such a room exists!

No, Sherry, aloft is owned by Marriott. The IHG brands are Intercontinental Hotels, Kimpton Hotels, HUALUXE Hotels, Hotel Indigo, Even Hotels, Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Candlewood Suites, and Staybridge Suites.

Sherry, Vic just told me that he will probably skip the CR conference this year. That being the case, I can share a room with someone.

I am definitely going. Still not sure if Tom is coming too.

Should add--if Tom doesn't come, I would love to share a room but I'm OK by myself too.

Update: Tom is not coming to Asheville so I am available to share a room with someone if that works out.

At the beginning of this thread, I said the convention would be the 28th through the 30th. In the other thread, the 19th through the 21st is mentioned. It would be better for me to be the latter date, do any of you thinking of coming have a preference?

I had the 28th through the 30th blocked on my calendar. I'll have to check my work calendar tomorrow to see if I could do the previous weekend.

I don't think there is much difference between the two for me.

Let's make it officially the 28th through the 30th. Deborah, yesterday I called Hotel Indigo to ask for group rates, they should get back to me sometime soon, but I may need your daughter's help if they seem too high to me.

Those of you who stayed at the Sommerset Suites in San Diego will be surprised to know that the hotel is being converted into condos. That was our first home in San Diego. We stayed there for two weeks until we found a house to rent while we were looking for a house to buy.

That's interesting, Jane. I wonder if we had something to do with their decision!
