Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments I came across this interesting information by serendipity.

"The ampersand (&) today is used primarily in business names, but that small character was once the 27th part of the alphabet.

Where did it come from though? The origin of its name is almost as bizarre as the name itself."

See the article at: http://blog.dictionary.com/ampersand/

Jim (jimmaclachlan) Interesting, Joy. I vaguely recall hearing it was bad handwriting that caused it & I see why that rumor would have gotten started. There were some interesting links in there, too. Time leeches, though. Once I start clicking on interesting links, who knows where it will end?
:)
