Wibblebob | 5 comments Hi all I'm wondering if you can help me? I read this book when I was about 12 ish and can't seem to remember the title or the author. I don't know if anyone else has read it, I found it in a library in the uk around 1991/2

So plot line (as far as I can remember)

There is a fast food theme park which is only open to select people. A competition is held by the fast food company to win tickets for the theme park (I think it was by completing a sentence of why you should win or some marketing like that). The main character is a young man, he decides to undergo hypnotism to win the competition to come up with a snappy sentence. His plan works he gets to go to the theme park but begins to undermine the company and ultimately begins it's distruction. The kicker is at the end of the story he actually is still at the hypnotist and has dreamed the whole thing and they cannot wake him up.

The book is not a long story I think the cover was blue with a rollercoaster on the front.

As far as I know that's all I can remember but it was a good book, it was a young adults novel.

Thank you to anyone who can help me.

Ayshe | 4720 comments Helped by a hypnotist, Ben Lewis writes a poem praising Huey McGooey, the clown symbolising a chain of burger bars. With it he wins a holiday at Happy Streeet Burger Paradise.
At first Happy Street seems fine, with welcoming company and quantities of burger bar style food. The one mystery is that Ben is never allowed to visit the beach. This prohibition is explained when Becky, a student excluded from art class because she insists on painting disturbing pictures, leads Ben down the cliff. The bricks to construct Happy Street have been obtained by digging away at its foot, so the whole structure is liable to fall at any time. The conception of a society based on false jollity, suppression of original thought and exploitation of dissidents is not new, though Jon Blake describes his version with some style. The then he woke up' ending is — as always — a disappointment.
