Jadetyger Sevea What Angels Fear
On TBR since 7/2011
Finished 4/3/17

I liked the protagonist, Sebastian St. Cyr, a great deal. I enjoyed the setting. I was put off by the gory description of the crime scene--Or should I say, the repeated description of the crime scene. A horrifying description once, or even twice, is understandable. But to have the characters ruminating on it three and four times? I'll take a pass. I wasn't wowed by the love interest, either. I suppose she was meant to come across as conflicted and strong-willed, but to me, she just seemed wishy-washy. I hear there is a different love interest introduced later in the series. We'll see if I hang in there that long.

I did really enjoy the protagonist, though

I'll probably give the series another chance. I see that my local library has a few of the books on loan. I'll probably go that route before shelling out money again.

Jadetyger Sevea A Fatal Waltz
Finished 5/22/17

Real life has interfered with my reading. That and a 'book slump' (starting several books, finishing none) has slowed my trek considerably. But I'm still here!

Three Stars

This book was meh. It only really got going in the last eighty percent or so, due in part to the author's travelogue of Vienna and her focus on the characters' personal issues. Don't get me wrong--I'm all for character development and interactions! But Emily's worries about Colin's fidelity seemed highly manufactured. It seemed out of character for her.

In any case, there was a fairly satisfying ending to the mystery. I have one more of this author's books on my shelf. After that one I think I'll stop this series.

Jadetyger Sevea I'm back!

The Cater Street Hangman

Three Stars

That was an abrupt ending. I could have done with a bit more resolution after the murderer was revealed, especially because Perry had taken such pains to show the reader how every single character reacted to every single event.

Perhaps she will show their reactions in the next book. I think this is like the Sebastian St. Cyr series. I liked it well enough, but it will be something I follow through the library.
