When writing from a simple poem to a long novel, authors sometimes experience writer's block. Have you ever experienced it? What's your writers block experience and how did you overcome it? Also, feel free to brainstorm and ask other members for possible sources of inspiration.

Is it normal to jump around in a story your writing, if you're not sure where parts of it are going?!

It is normal. Sometimes I end up even writing the end and I haven't even written the middle yet

Amber Martingale It's not normal for me. For me, it's normal to switch to a different writing project.

Well different strokes for different folks

So you can work on more than one project at a time?!

For me, it depends on the project. I do sometimes.

Man I just wish I didn't have so many ideas floating around in my head!

Amber Martingale Janessa, some can, some can't. I'm one of the ones who can.

That said, I'm having a bit of writer's block for a character name.

Here's a bit of background to the story: It's set on an alternate version of Earth. Up to the time of the Crusades, this Earth's history is EXACTLY like our Earth. The Crusades still happened, but NOT the way they did here. On MY story's version of Earth it wasn't merely Christians vs. Muslims for possession of the Holy Land. On that Earth, it was Christians, Jews and Muslims working TOGETHER as ALLIES with Hindus, Buddhists and pagans with methane breathing extraterrestrial refugees AGAINST cyanide breathing extraterrestrials who want to EXTERMINATE the methane breathers.

Another difference between that Earth and ours is that there the creatures of folklore, including vampires and faeries, actually exist and they too joined with the humans and methane breathing refugees against the cyanide breathers. Or at least some of them did. On that Earth, the Crusades were still going on up to the time immediately PRIOR to America's war for independence from England.

It's still 2017 there, and Ireland is STILL an independent nation as is Scotland. The UK as we know it here does not exist, so there was no Brexit from the EU. There, the UK is made up solely of England, Wales, Cornwall, the Channel Island and the Scillys. https://www.pinterest.se/BeagleMammy/... (our Earth's UK).

The character in question is the oldest son of the High King of Ireland and his wife. The Queen is a dhampir of mixed Russian, Wallachian and Hungarian heritage ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dhampir and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wallachia ). Her married name is Natalia Boru, but she was born Natalia Bianca Romanova Tepeș Dracul. Yes, THAT Dracul... (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vlad_th... ). Her husband, Michael, is a descendant of Brian Boru ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brian_Boru).

I don't know whether their son should be named Mikhail Mircea Or Mircea Mikhail. "Mikhail" is the Russian version of "Michael," just as "Ivan" is the Russian version of "John." "Mircea" is the Wallachian for "Merciful." and was the name of Vlad III Tepeș Dracul's baby brother. His baby brother, age six months, is already named Vlad.

Any advice on naming would be helpful.

With the definition of the names, "Mircea Mikhail" makes more sense to me. But any one could work.

Amber Martingale That's one vote. Anyone else? Thanks, Lee.
