Alice is a naive twenty-something that hasn't really found her niche in life. She's jumped from job to job and is currently working for a small publishing house. Her boss gives her a special assignment to "babysit" an author (M. M. Banning, who must write another book because she has run out of money. In reality, the assignment is mostly about babysitting the author's son Frank, a formal dressing, movie loving, kleptomaniac kid.
I really enjoyed this book, especially Frank and Alice and their developing relationship. Frank was at turns hilarious, but also at turns extremely sad. The mother/author MiMi, is haunted by a tragic event in her past which was the basis for her famous book. She is distant yet overly protective as she knows that Frank is not a normal kid. There is some mysteries about Frank's father and the role that several men play in MiMi's life. I would recommend this for fans of Where'd You Go, Bernadette, as it has the same hilarious, but tackles some weightier issues.
