newest »

Backdating in challenges is ONLY allowed in timed challenges for 2019/2020 (or the current year we are in) such as the 2020 A-Z Challenges.
But if you join a challenge in progress, you may not include books read before the date you posted to the challenge.

An addition to the STANDARD CHALLENGE RULES:
Puzzle type books will not be allowed for challenges. There MUST be text to read.
Not allowed
Ex. Walt's Vanity License Plate: Word Search Puzzle Book
Books by Tribune Media Services.
Books similar to Riddles: 100 Interactive Riddles and Brain teasers: The Best Short Riddles and Brainteasers With Clues for Stretching and Entertaining your Mind will be allowed because there is text to read.
If you are not sure your selection will be allowed, please ask a mod or post a question in the Challenge Help thread.

Don't post the cover unless it's needed for a task. Please post book links and author links. It takes SO MUCH time for me to click on the covers to see the titles and author names when I am checking completed challenges.....

The Monthly Scavenger Hunt does not require partial sentences anymore just page, location or percentage numbers for each word. But we still require sentences for tasks #7-#12 in the Scattergories Challenge.
The mods ask that members please sign up for challenges rather than just post a completion post. It takes us a lot of time to go back through the challenge to make sure we did not miss your original post.

In Spell Out Challenges - X can be anywhere in the word.
Here's a great example that a member asked about:
The word to be spelled out is:
S
I
X - Orphan X - this is acceptable!!
E
R
S

For the purposes of clarity, the mods have come up with a set of standard TLC rules.
These rules apply to all TLC challenges unless stated otherwise in the introductory post.
Occasionally individual challenge rules may differ from the standard rules so please read all challenge instructions carefully. However, if a particular rule is not specified (page minimum, re-reads etc.) on the introductory post then please refer to these rules.
If in doubt, just ask. :)
STANDARD RULES
✱ Please post a partial list of the challenge when you sign up.
✱ For each book that you read please post a link to the book, the author and the date you finished it.
EXAMPLE:
Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen - 3/3/19
✱ Each book may only be used for ONE task or letter per challenge. You may of course use the same book in as many separate challenges as you wish.
✱ To count a book towards a challenge you must read the majority of it after the start date of the challenge. Just reading the last few pages / chapters is not allowed.
✱ When more than one option is given for a task, please state which option your book relates to.
EXAMPLE:
Task: A book set in England OR a book with a vampire main character
Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen - 3/3/19 (set in England)
OR
Task: A book set in England (You do not need to include the rest of the task.)
Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen - 3/3/19
✱ If you are asked to find a particular word in a title, just posting a link to the book is fine, we can see the connection. However, if you are asked to find a character with a name starting with E - you will need to include the character's name. If you are asked to find a number in a page count, please include the book's page count.
EXAMPLE:
Task: A book with the word LOVE in the title
Love You Dead - Peter James - 3/3/17
Task: A character whose name begins with the letter E
Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen - 3/3/19 - (Elizabeth Bennett)
Task: Read a book with a 9 in the total number of pages.
Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen - 3/3/19 (279 pages)
✱ If the task relates to the cover of your book, please post the cover AND the book link. Make sure you use the cover of the edition that you read!!
EXAMPLE:
Task: Read a book with a red cover
✱ All genres and formats are fine (Books, ebooks, audio etc.).
✱ Re-reads are allowed, unless otherwise specified, as long as you actually re-read the whole book.
✱ Unless otherwise specified, there is no page minimum.
✱ When you have finished, please re-post your whole challenge as a new message and MARK AS FINISHED or you will not be considered to have completed the challenge and we will not be able to award your Hall of Fame badge.
Even if you don't hit the level you were aiming for, please re-post anyway as you may be eligible for a lower level badge :)
