So typical reading envy, already thinking ahead to the next one before completing the first... but who has book ideas?

Carol Ann (carolann1428) | 47 comments Just an idea - here's one I've been wanting to read for a while now and I think it would be fun to discuss with the group.

The Chilbury Ladies' Choir

Blaine DeSantis Have Yellow Crocus but never read it. Sounds good. Also would recommend The Pecan Man

There is a poll up! Please see the finalists and take the poll for readalong 2.

(I also took the survey into account.)

Elizabeth☮ | 268 comments Good choices. It was hard to decide.

message 12: by Carol (new)

Carol | 46 comments I voted. I've read Half of a Yellow Sun and liked it very much. I own The Golden Notebook and would be willing to read it if chosen. But I've been trying to catch up on my classics so I voted for Middlemarch. I absolutely hated The Goldfinch so I'm not willing to give her other book a chance - although I'd be interested to know if there were people out there that liked The Secret History but didn't like The Goldfinch.

I don't know what I'll vote for or if I'll just allow others to decide!

I was really amazed at how many of my Goodreads friends who had not only read it, they had rated it five stars. There are a few that really hate it but it seemed overwhelmingly positive. I guess The Goldfinch was too, although that wasn't a huge win for me. If that one gets picked, we should definitely have that conversation.

message 15: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (tnbooklover) I voted for The Secret History because it is one of my all time favorite books and I would love to revisit it with a group.

Amanda, just curious. Did you read "The Goldfinch"? Did you like that one?

message 17: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (tnbooklover) I did like The Goldfinch but nowhere near as much as The Secret History. This would be my third read of TSH I would not consider reading The Goldfinch again.

message 18: by Sue (new)

Sue Dix | 22 comments I voted and I can't wait to see the results. Love readalongs.

message 19: by Ace (new)

Ace (aceonroam) Which book is in the lead?

High praise Amanda. I voted for TSH which I own and still haven't had a chance to read.

Those of us who are Book of the Month subscribers have access to their edition of The Secret History as a $9.99 add on. If you've been thinking of botm, you can go directly there or use my referral link. No need to belong to botm or anything, but that's one way to get a nice copy.

Otherwise do you have your copy yet?!

I've been holding back! I will not start until September 1! So tempting.

message 32: by Carol (new)

Carol | 46 comments My hold at the library came through so I did start reading it. So far I'm enjoying it better than The Goldfinch.

I've used the time in between to slam down a few swap books and review copies. :D

message 36: by Sue (new)

Sue Dix | 22 comments I have my copy but I'm waiting until September 1st. I am trying to finish up some August books and get a head start on some other September books. So. Much. Reading.

Carol Ann (carolann1428) | 47 comments Me, too! I'm waiting but boy, is it tempting!

message 38: by Marchpane (new)

Marchpane | 12 comments Somehow I missed all the announcements, but I'm keen to join in with this! I attempted The Secret History once before and have always meant to go back and try again. It will help to have the group read!
