I'm an early morning writer. I just can't scribble at night. But I feel like I'm an exception, not the rule :)

G.R. Phillips (grphillips) | 12 comments I find some of my best writing takes place at a cafe in the morning on the weekend. Having a Mon - Fri, 5am - 1pm job, most of my writing takes place in the afternoon or early evening and I certainly know I write crap in the late evening.

Brian Basham (brianbasham) | 390 comments I like to write whenever I can find time which usually ends up being later at night. On the weekends I will sometimes find time to write in the AM, but I like to sleep in too. :D

Funny thing is that I noticed I write best in the morning, yet my hubby and I go to bed so late at night, I don't feel like getting up in the morning so It's a constant struggle. Most of the time the bed wins and the writing has to adapt to whatever time it is.

Cem Bilici (cembilici) I don't find that time of day makes too much of difference for me, but having said that I haven't done any early morning writing. I'm a night owl by nature so that's when it happens to be, or on my lunch break at work.

Can't say I have seen any difference between afternoon and night.

I'm definitely not a morning person though so I would hazard to guess that I would suck then.

Zee Monodee (zee_monodee) | 7 comments I'm like G.G. - not a morning person per se, but I find I write better in the mornings. Could be that I have the house to myself (so quiet and uninterrupted time) then as the hubby and kid are out to work and school. I've also written during the day (an uninterrupted block of time works for me), but I can never conjure words up in the evening or at night. It's like my brain is on strike then, LOL!

Jevon Knights (jevonknights) I've noticed my writing tends to be better during early morning and late evening. Something about the change in temperature and dim sunlight, I suppose.

Most times I write in the evening after work. The morning rush is just too hard.

Jessica West (jessica_west) Depends on how many words I need to get in that day. My deadline is almost always "tomorrow," so if I've got to hammer out 9k, then I start in the morning and work all day, usually *just* making my deadline. The pressure gets me going like nothing else, and I know I can hit 13k in a day if I absolutely have to. If it's just a 3k piece or something flexible, I'll usually put it off until the evening.

I'm a much better editor than writer. :P

Eugene Knight (eugeneknight) | 14 comments I definitely love the night everything outside is calm. especially in the summer, I can sit out in my sun-room with my laptop in the middle of the night with the rain or frogs croaking, I love it.
Every great once in awhile I do wake up early, from a dream and feel motivated to write, but then again, usually most my writing inspirations comes to me right after I lay down and am almost sleeping then bam it hits me. I can't even say how many all-nighters I've done because of that.

Joe Eliseon Oddly enough, it depends where I am in the process. I work full days but, when I start a project, I tend to busy myself with non-writing chores until after lunch. It takes me the morning to get the creative juices up to a simmer. As I approach the end, usually a bit past the half-way point, I have a "horse smells the barn" moment. Either I'm consumed with solving plot problems or everything has clicked into place. Whichever it is, I can't think of anything else. I start writing as early in the A.M. as I can.

Lan LLP | 48 comments Evenings, when my kids are asleep and I'm all alone, undistracted :)

message 12: by Ty (new)

Ty (tyunglebo) It varies, though given that I tend to be less productive at ANYTHING in the morning, most of my writing happens in the afternoon or evening. I read a lot in the morning though, which I like to think helps me as a writer eventually.

message 13: by Jason (new)

Jason Black I find writing at the weekend, early mornings from 4:30am, the best for me. (I am used to getting up that early for work in the week.) I find this the most peaceful time of the day, and although I have tried writing in the evening, I do not gel so well. I also enjoy brainstorming sessions with my wife over breakfast at our favourite cafe on a Saturday morning.

Heidi Barnes | 86 comments I'm mostly a morning writer, which doesn't work real well when school is in and I have to be at work early. So it falls to the weekends. I've tried writing at night, but like some have said, my brain will not function right. During the summer my routine is usually writing, walking (got to get some exercise in there somewhere) then house work or working out in the yard before it gets too hot. I may get some in afterwards because usually my brain is going over what I wrote in the morning, rewriting it over and over a few times. :S
