The Not a Book Club Club discussion

Section 1

Please keep all discussion and speculation to the events of Prologue, Chapters 1-11.

No spoiler tags required. Though it would be highly appreciated if you Uncheck Add to my Update Feed to avoid accidentally spoiling things for your good read friends.

Please do not discuss events from later sections/books. Referring back to events from a previous section/book is fine.

Not much to say because I don't really remember where this section ends. I do like all the characters. I'm glad to see that Olem is still around. I never felt like Vlora got much depth in the last series. I'm looking forward to some of that here.

Ben Styke reminds me a bit of some other characters, but I'm enjoying him so far. The killer with a code so to speak.

I'm not sure what I feel about Michel yet. Secret police aren't often that good of people. And what's the deal with him talking to himself?

I'll be starting this tomorrow I think - I have about 3 hours left in A Conjuring of Light. I'm driving about 4 hours Thursday night (to another comiccon!), so that should get me at least a good part into the book.

Yeah, I drove 800 miles over the weekend, although I was finishing up another book first. Still I'd guess at least 500 of those miles were for this book, so I made a huge dent already.

It's really good so far!

I am really enjoying the start of this book so far. I believe this will be a more political book than the first trilogy, and this is mainly due to the POV we have.
Vlora Flint - Never really had much exposure in the original trilogy, but was in the shorter works a lot more. She has her regiment behind her - but on 5000 men is not much
Ben Styke - a grizzled veteran. A single character with a young side-kick. He was introduced in the Novella - Ghosts of the Tristan Basin - a good story that provides a lot of fleshing out for this book.
Michel - a Silver Rose holder who want to get the gold. He is a spy, but is investigating the Sins of Empire. Where will this lead to.

Nice to see Olem is still there as well, but he is not a POV character. Nice to have the link to the other trilogy without that trilogy dominating this one.

Its easy going without being boring, but concealing where it is going at the same time.

Hmm. Sounds like I need to read some of the short stories. I have a few, though I don't remember which.
