Still past this section. I suspect some of the things I'll be posting in the next section belong here. Or possibly the last section. I should have made these posts sooner/took notes.

Richard Eyres (richardeyres) I have been really enjoying this book so far. Listening to it on Audiobook - and quality is excellent.
I really am enjoying how Michel Bravis argues with himself, i think he does it our loud sometimes as well.
Ben Styke is a machine. Fighting the Dragon man and getting respect for it.
Vlora Flint being a solid general, if letting her guard slip a few times.

I also like that magic has taken a back step so far. Yes, powder has been used, but there has been very little scenes with full on magic. This grounds the story a lot more for me.

Onto the next half.

Yeah, the narrator can't do female voices (and I'm glad he hasn't tried) but his voices for everyone else are fantastic.

I've wondered when Bravis is arguing internally, and when it's out loud. I'd agree that sometimes it has to slip and be out loud.

That's a good point about the use of magic. There is a lot less of it in this book. The magic was one of my favorite aspects of the original series, but I didn't find myself missing it. There was enough to feel like we're in the same world, but it's not the central focus of the story like it was in the last series.

Richard Eyres (richardeyres) I think this is a more political book, very similar to Django Wexlers. This is a good thing in my opinion.
I like to collect books in Hardback, and this was not being released in the UK. I managed to purchase a copy from ebay in the end of the US version. Hopefully will be here next week. Will probably look at the possibility of getting the others from the Authors website direct next time - hopefully he will get more of the proceeds.

I think Wexler's series went from: War book to Political Book and books 3 & 4 blended the two very well such that I gave both 5 stars (which I rarely do). I do feel like this is a much better blend of the two than his original trilogy was. However I also gave The Autumn Republic 5 stars.

With regards to format, for me I got Promise of Blood for cheap in ebook, and being OCD, I bought the next 2 books as eBook to have them all in the same format.

I was going to do the eBook again for this series, but it was so expensive (it actually cost like $0.30 more than the hardcover), and I don't read that much lately, so it was easier for me to do the audio. So now that I have book 1 in audio, I'll do the rest that way, especially since I enjoyed the narrator so much.

Suzanne | 1582 comments I like how Bravis argues with himself too. I guess in a way its just a fun way to do internal dialogue, but its enjoyable.

I liked his "discussion" with his mother too.

Boy and something happened - something big - but I'm not sure where in the book. I'll probably need to wait til I'm done to discuss.
