What did you think of it? Favorite or least favorite characters? Favorite or least favorite part? Will you read the next one?

Justine (Milkz) (milkz) I think I was way too hyped up for this book, but I still liked it. Laini Taylor is such an amazing writer. My favorite character is Sarai's father (I read this book awhile ago, and I can't find his name online >.>). It's interesting to see how he is portrayed through the pov's of different people. My favorite part is (view spoiler) My least favorite part is when (view spoiler) Until certain scenes at the end, I thought this was unnecessary. And maybe because I didn't like it, I kind of feel like this happened so Lazlo would be more determined in the next book. I will read the next one because I want to see how so many things work out!

Bonnie Shores (bonnieshores) | 1 comments I'm really looking forward to reading this book and being a part of the discussion. However, I'm currently on book two of the Red Queen series with one more to go. I hope I'm not too late to join in. I'll try to read longer and faster. :)

Farren (mmmcookies) | 302 comments I've been so excited for this one, but I see a lot of book tubers DNF it, or they finish it and say they were unimpressed. Considering how much they glorified Caraval and Heartless, both books that I found pretty meh, I don't know if I'll absolutely love or hate this one. I am definitely going to read it this month though!

Stephanie Roxane I'm really looking forward to picking this up this month. I have no idea how I'll feel about it. My two favourite booktubers, one doesn't stop raving about it and the other DNF'd it, so we will see, but I'm definitely looking forward to getting to it.

Senna Black (sennablack) | 2 comments I just finished this book. I didn't get along with it as well as I was hoping/expecting to. Really liked Daughter of Smoke and Bone, etc, for the same reasons I liked this one (her writing style is just such a joy to read!).

However, although I like a book with beautiful writing, I like a book that lets me connect with characters more, and 3rd person omniscient POV-jumping is great for the former but not (in my experience) so good for the latter.

The book is a slow start; things don't really kick off until the midpoint, and then they kick off fast; (view spoiler)

This also means it felt at the end of this book it was actually the midpoint of a much longer story, rather than at the end of the first book in a duology. I know long books aren't the thing at the moment, but if you hate being left hanging, I'd hold off and read both together.

Eril-Fane! I agree; he was super interesting as a character. Hopefully more of him in the sequel. Agree with you on the ending, too.

Kate (katespofford) I just started this and I'm already loving it - although I'm more invested in Lazlo than the godspawn right now...

Kate (katespofford) Okay I finally finished! (Finally - it only took me a few days :P). I LOVED this book. I love her writing style (I read Daughter of Smoke & Bone but neglected to finish the series, but I loved it) and this was just wonderful. It felt like a fairytale reading it. I really loved Lazlo - I'm a librarian too so maybe that's why - but I also really like Thyon, because I understood his motivations and I thought his suspicions of Lazlo made sense, even though he was meant to be a sort of "villian." It took me a bit longer to like the godspawn, but I did end up liking most of them.

I didn't really feel like this was too much "instalove" because I think time moves differently in a dream, and given that both characters were so starved for love and then to find the perfect somebody like that it made sense to me. I really did like most of the characters, although I wish there had been more of the other faranji, like Calixte.

Alyson Stone (alysonserenastone) | 99 comments Is this any good?

Ricky (spider-fan) I agree with Senna and Justine - this book was a little hype-damaged. Slow first half, and it generally felt more focused on lavish detail than actual story.

Farren (mmmcookies) | 302 comments I ended up calling this one a DNF for now. I think I need to read her Daughter of Smoke and Bone series first and get used to the writing style before diving back into this one. I drift off when books are so overwritten like this one and didn't care enough about the plot to make myself continue.

Umairah (Sereadipity) (sereadipity) I admit that Laini Taylor's style takes a bit of getting used to and the plot takes a while to get going but I just finished reading this and I loved it so much! You think that things are going well then suddenly they're not and there are some major plot twists. It actually made me cry and I barely ever cry

Quoleena Sbrocca (qjsbrocca) I enjoyed this book, even though toward the end I skimmed the dreams portions that didn't progress the story and were all about the romance. Others probably enjoyed those parts, but it's not my style of reading. It's not fast-paced, but it wasn't an issue for me since I was invested enough in the story and the characters. The ending was fitting, and I can't wait for The Muse of Nightmares!

Steve (loonacy) I just don’t think I can finish this book. I have tried to keep going because people say it gets better but at 200 pages it is still not catching my attention at all. I loved the Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy but this one is so slowwww. Her writing is beautiful but the story is just lacking to me.

Louise | 24 comments Oh this book is beautiful. Just beautiful.

Oceania (ghostofmakaris) | 12 comments I didn’t like her other series, but I’m obsessed with Strange the Dreamer. It’s so beautifully written and addictive.
