2017 - Readathon Eleven Date: April 8th, 2017 - 8PM - Midnight - Check-In - THIS IS CHECK IN FOUR

Please let us know who is reading during these this period of time.

Let us know the following:

Name of Book and Author:
Genre:
Number of Pages Read - Start Page and Finish Page for this four hour period.
Don't forget the proper citation - just do the best you can and we will assist you.
How much time did you read:
Did you complete any books - name of book and author
What time zone and location are you in:

So for example:

The Jewel in the Crown by Paul Scott
The Jewel in the Crown (The Raj Quartet, #1) by Paul Scott by Paul Scott Paul Scott - Genre: Historical Fiction - pages start 1 - finish 80

If you finished a book - let us know that too and make sure to get it added to your readathon shelf so you can get credit for it. If it is added properly it will show up on your shelf. You have to make sure to have selected a readathon shelf and when you are done with the first book for your readathon - make sure to add the completed date and that the book is read versus currently reading.

It will show up on your shelf if you have done this properly.

Remember wherever you are you can participate in the readathon.

And if you only have one hour or four hours or plan to do this for the entire 24 hour period taking of course breaks for eating and sleeping - you can join for however long you want to read. We want to keep track of the books completed, the books started, the books in progress, the number of pages read by all, and the different genres. Great fun and this is only the eleventh readathon - we will use the same readathon challenge for all of them so you can see your readathon shelves grow.

Additionally these books that you complete on the readathon can be added to other shelves for the Japan or Ireland challenge or the 2017 50 Books Challenge or the goodreads yearly challenge - the sky is the limit. Any genre is welcome.

Remember folks this is the check in for anybody reading during the hours of 8PM until MIDNIGHT on April 8th (wherever in the world you are - use your time zone). If you want to get credit for any reading done during these four hours you must check in on this thread - Checkpoint 4. But for the check in to count - you must post between the hours of 8PM and MIDNIGHT on April 8th in the time zone that you are in. This is the Checkpoint for those hours on April 8th. To get credit for these hours this is the thread you must post on

REMEMBER AT LEAST ONE CHECK-IN MUST REFLECT THE FOLLOWING TO BE COUNTED IN THE READATHON AND OF COURSE YOU MUST CHECK-OUT AT THE END.

Make sure to answer the following:

Name of Book and Author or books and authors:

Genre or genres:

Number of Pages Read - Start Page and Finish Page for this four hour period.

Don't forget the proper citation - just do the best you can and we will assist you.

How much time did you read during this block of time:

Did you complete any books during this time frame and what were they?

Also, your location in the world and timezone

EASY SAMPLE OF TEMPLATE AND HOW YOU SIGN IN FOR EACH OF THE SIX CHECK INS - EACH CHECK IN REFLECTS A SPECIFIC FOUR HOUR AND DISTINCT BLOCK OF TIME/DATE IN YOUR GLOBAL LOCATION

You have to sign in for each check in point out of six Check INs that you want to get official credit for: (THE IDEAL IS TO READ FOR ALL 6 BUT THAT IS HARD TO DO) - each four hour block of time is for a specific time slot - check in FOUR is for 8PM UNTIL MIDNIGHT on April 8th. The minimum time spent on the readathon allowed is one hour out of 24 and a mandatory check in - of at least one Check In and the mandatory Check Out which is your final official tally. The check ins have one template and the check out is different and is the final tabulation point with its own template. Remember the ideal for the readathon is to make and check in at each of the official check in gates (there are six) and then officially check out the next day at the CHECK OUT THREAD - which is always Check Point Seven.

OK here is how I would sign in and I would fill in the blanks that I know at the beginning of the time slot timeframe and then I would complete the template at the end of the four hours and then do the same thing moving to Check In FIVE

I am showing you a sample of how I sign in for Check In FOUR absent any explanations

BLANK TEMPLATE

Hi, this is Bentley - checking in from New York City - Metro New York City area - New York/New Jersey - USA - Eastern Standard Time

60. Aloha - Aloha we need to know more information for the readathon - city, state, country and timezone - if you are from a foreign country then we need closest city, state, and country plus timezone - for privacy I state - Metro NYC, NY/NJ - Eastern Standard Time so that is the way you still give the specific information but give enough specifics for the readathon - so please let us know some general specifics

61. ShawnLeeZX - Central District, 00, Hong Kong - did not receive timezone location information - but I will assume based upon the profile that it is going to be Hong Kong Time Zone - UTC+08:00 - it appears if the above is correct that you are 12 hours ahead of Bentley in NYC so you will be starting the Readathon 12 hours sooner than Bentley will - so you should start at 8AM your time and this is the first check in thread. Your 8AM on 4/8 is 8PM on 4/7 for Bentley so you are posting earlier than Eastern Standard Time

62. Kaye - New Jersey - Eastern Standard Time - Kaye could you give a city that you are closest to - Start Time 8AM Saturday - EST - 4/8

63. Jaydee414 - Maryland - Eastern Shore - EST - Start Time 8AM Saturday - EST - 4/8

64. Kim Verstraeten - Belgium, Central European Summer Time - what city are you closer too. Bentley uses Metro NYC, NY -EST - it appears that are going to start with this check in thread 6 hours ahead of NYC so you would be starting at 2AM Bentley's NYC time - I do not have more information from you so that is my assumption - use your local time - 8AM - 4/8 as the start time

65. Monica A - New York City, New York, USA - Eastern Standard Time (EST) - Start Time 8AM Saturday - EST - 4/8

66. Luis Frauca remacha - zero information - need city, state, country and timezone

Wait List Folks - the Maybes - Bentley is not counting on you participating - there is a fair amount of preparation for Readathons so folks cannot just show up. Make sure that you have signed up for the Readathons and set up your shelves. We have information posted elsewhere which would help you with this. Let us know that you want to participate by changing your maybe to yes ahead of time and make sure to include your city, state, country and timezone or if you are a global member - your city or province, country, timezone - you can maintain your privacy and give enough details for the readathon where time, timezone, location are critical. For example, I post Metro NYC, NY - Eastern Standard Time. So please make sure to let us know ahead of time by letting Bentley know.

JOIN THE READATHON OFFICIAL LISTING:

All - before beginning make sure that you have first signed in to the Readathon itself and signed up.

Here is the link: https://www.goodreads.com/challenges/...

Scroll down to the bottom of the readathon text and make sure you have joined the Readathon and then at the bottom you will see how you can set up your shelf to document your readathon completion progress. You will set up the name for your shelf and indicate how many books you would like to complete during the Readathons.

Once you have joined the official Readathon list - you do not have to join that set up again because we carry over the previous list from year to year.

You can always update your shelf from year to year and change the number of books you want to complete and the name of the shelf for that year easily. You can always do updates and edits.

Of course, you have to sign up for the Readathon event but as far as your Readathon shelf - you will be set up.

All, this is the thread that everybody goes to next after completing Check In - Checkpoint Three - this is Check In - Checkpoint FOUR and folks sign in here if they are reading during the Readathon between the hours of 8PM and MIDNIGHT on your April 8th.

First you are immediately going to come here and check in and after completing Check In THREE - Checkpoint - you always check in immediately at the beginning of each the four hour time slots for each four hour period. This is Check In - Checkpoint FOUR and you are in the right spot if you are reading during the hours of 8PM and MIDNIGHT on April 8th.

Do a copy and paste of blank template that is used on all check ins
read messages 3, 4, 5 closely. And post your hello and entry.

Approximately 15 minutes before the end of the check in FOUR period - at about 11:45PM - come back in again to the check in and fill in all of the completed data and stats and citations for that four hour time slot.

Once you have checked in and completed the check in - then you will move to the next check in and do it all over again.

There are six check ins and at the very least you have to hit one - and no matter if you had one check in - all the way up to six - EVERYBODY HAS TO CHECK OUT THE FOLLOWING DAY AT NOON.

The mandatory check out has its own template.

Great guys - keep your eyes on the clock and watch when the next checkpoint starts.

Debye - on your citation you have written in the author's name and it is not in linkable text - you can add the author - the same way you add the book cover - in that book there was no author's photo so you are correct in adding the (no photo) at the end.

But here once again is how it is supposed to be done:

The Book Thieves The Nazi Looting of Europe's Libraries and the Race to Return a Literary Inheritance by Anders Rydell by Anders Rydell (no photo)

Also you are missing the line item in your template - Total Books Completed: (those are the books that you completed the last page on)

Total Books Read: (those are the books that you sampled and read a portion of during the timeframe) - some folks read more than one book during the readathon. So for - that you would at least put in the number one.

Hi Brentley, I added the 2 line items when checked in for session five--I hadn't realized I missed them. I will edit my post in session 5 to hyperlink the authors name. Thank you!!

Folks remember there is the mandatory check out shelf CHECKPOINT SEVEN) and you have to check out there when you are done.

I always give folks extra time to get that done on the day after the readathon start date which is today so any time today getting the tallies in is fine.

But CHECKPOINT SEVEN is the place to do the mandatory check out - so please use the CHECK OUT TEMPLATE.
No matter on what thread you checked in on - you have to check out today on CHECKPOINT SEVEN USING THE CHECK OUT TEMPLATE.
