Nikki the Sapphired Book Dragon AKA NixieNut (sapphireddragon) | 1397 comments Tower Teams Meets The Great Library Event

With not one but two new books hitting the shelves, we can say that July is Rachel Caine's month. Thus, at NBRC we're celebrating it with a Q&A with the author thread

The publisher asked if we could send the questions in advance, so, here are the rules:

RULES & HOW TO
1. Post your questions on this thread till July 9th16th .
2. If your question is spoilerish, please add a spoiler tag
3. On Monday (July.10th17th) we'll send the publisher your questions and we'll let you know the result as soon as they get back to us.

Tower Teams meets the Great Library Event
We are rewarding 30 points for participation (ONE question per team)

PS i have also popped this info on the first page of this thread so it will be easy to find

Fajriy Here's mine tower-teams-v-2017 :)

Nikki the Sapphired Book Dragon AKA NixieNut (sapphireddragon) | 1397 comments okies so time to introduce myself.

My name is Nikk and I live in Sydney, Australia with my partner, our 5 year old daughter, a blue cattle dog named Katie and a big orange cat named Jasper.
I read mostly urban fantasy, paranormal romance and YA fantasy, some YA contemporary and the odd high fantasy, cozy mystery or chick lit novel as the mood ( or reading challenge :-P) takes me.

This is my second tower teams challenge and my first as captain. Kathleen and I were actually co-captains together in tower teams IV as well as in Wobble

I have seen (and loved) the original 3 star wars movies ( a new hope, empire strikes back and return of the jedi as a child. I was not a huge fan of our namesake movie The phantom menace and as a result didn't watch the next two prequels movies ( in fact most of the time i forget what they were called) and i only saw The Force awakens on last New Years Eve. Now that Rogue one is on DVD here, I will probably get around to seeing it.

Your turn now, let us know a little about you :-)

message 22: by Marybeth (new)

Marybeth (narutofan14) | 262 comments Hi,
My name is Marybeth and I live in the mountains of SC. I am currently finishing up my associate degree (I will be graduating in about 3 weeks) and will be getting my bachelor's degree in graphic design in the fall. Right now i am finishing up the last paper and projects I have before exams but I will try to check in every once in a while. I usually read YA fantasy, contemporary, a little bit of horror, and paranormal romance although I will read just about anything.
Right now I have no plans for the summer except to read although i am searching for a summer job. I usually read about 5-8 books at a time when I am on break from school. :)

Here is my shelf: https://www.goodreads.com/review/list....

Hi all,

I'm Kelsi and I live in British Columbia, Canada, pretty close to the US border. I work in my local public library, which I absolutely love but it doesn't help my TBR one bit! I have always loved reading since I learned how and it is still my favorite hobby. My favorite genres are fantasy (all types but my favorite is high fantasy), paranormal, YA, and historical fiction. That being said, I will pretty much read anything that I have been told is good, regardless of genre.

My shelf is here: tower-teams-5

Roger - president of NBR United - (roger_presidentofnbrunited) | 612 comments Hello All I am Roger, I am 48 years old born in December of 1968. I live in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA so Central US Time. I work at McDonald's and am active in My Church. I am also Gay and Most of my reading is M/M Romance I do read Paranormal romance that is M/F sometimes. I also really enjoy fantasy of any type but prefer High Fantasy I read the Hobbit when I was 5 and the LOR trilogy when I was 8. As I am currently in M/M challenges I will be mostly reading M/M unless something really draw my attention. I hate a certain time period of historical Fiction, Regency to Victorian is anathema to me and I cannot stand Jane Austen at all. I Could read books from when I was three on. My mother had to defend herself because when I went to kindergarten kids weren't supposed to be able to read then. My mother and I believe that Sesame Street is responsible for my being able to read that young. That being said If the Historical either has a paranormal twist or is a thriller I am more likely to enjoy it. I hate manners novel with a passion. that being said other than tentacles which make me Violently ill and Extreme violence which is a trigger I will give most books a try but I am willing to ditch a book if it doesn't hold my interest.

My shelf is here: tower-v-read

I would have preferred to have been in the light but this is the first star wars movie I ever saw I was more of a trekkie than a star wars fan growing up.

message 25: by Elise (new)

Elise F (elise_literaryhabitat) Hi team :)

My name is Elise, I'm 32 (which I keep forgetting and thinking I'm still 31) and I just got back from my honeymoon this morning!
I had lots of literary styling touches in the wedding (sorry Roger - I am an Austenite!) and it was just the best day ever - still on a wedding high obviously :)
I love reading most things, especially the classics, crime fiction and literary fiction. Trying to diversify this year by adding more non-fiction but it slows my reading rate down...so I might hold off until after tt.

My shelf is here: tt-v

Amy the book-bat (batkisses) | 914 comments https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...

Hello!
I am Amy from Ohio. I live in a small town along the Ohio River. I am 44 (with a birthday coming up in May). I live with my dad, my son, and my dog. I am a moderator over at AMMP. I read pretty much anything that strikes my fancy. I do love mysteries and thrillers as well as paranormal.
I'm not a big Star Wars fan. I didn't watch them when I was growing up. I did see the original trilogy in the theater when they were rereleased because my brother and his friend needed someone to drive them and paid for my tickets.

Mint Tea (the-unknown) | 134 comments Hello again!

I am Mint and it's a name I like to use all over the social media. I read almost any genre but my favourites are Dark Fantasy (i like all things dark lol), Retellings, and Mystery. I'm also starting to get attracted to Nonfiction and Literary Works lately.

The only scene I've watched from Star Wars are the last parts on The Force Awakens. I'm not fond of reading books about space and physics (though i really enjoy physics very much) yet, and I kept on finding the excuse not to. Woops!

message 29: by Fajriy (new)

Fajriy Hello team :)

My name is Fajriy and I live with my family in a small town in East Java, Indonesia. I just graduated with a bachelor degree in English Education and will turn 23 next month.

I read any genres (except erotica). My favourites are Sword and Sorcery Fantasy and Dystopian Fiction, but currently I'm interested in women's fiction and nonfiction.

kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments Hi everyone!

I'm Kathleen and as Nikk mentioned we're old friends by now! ;)
I live in the Philippines. I genre-hop too but lately I've been reading more of fantasy books and switch to romance when I'm feeling pissed or need to take a breather from all the action in fantasy books. I see a lot of us are fantasy fans... anyone a Megan Whalen Turner fan too? :D

I think I've seen the original Star Wars movie but I just can't remember them. I watched them in VHS I think! All I remember was Princess Lea's hairdo and not much of the plot.

Did NBRC skip teaming people up according to timezone? I'm glad to meet new Goodreads friends!

message 32: by Zara's Retreat (new)

Zara's Retreat Hi everyone,

This not my first TT challenge. I had participated in the first three and then had a break but I decided this year that I wanted to have another go at it.

My name is Zara, I'm 48 (I'll be 49 in July), and I live in Western Australia with my husband of nearly 26 years and our two adult children along with two cats.

This year I started studying an English Literature and Creative Writing course and then had to put a hold on it due to being diagnosed as having type 2 Diabetes (in my case it's genetic I've been told - my mother had it, I have two brothers with it and one of my sisters managed to just dodge that bullet through exercise and weight loss). I felt I needed to focus on getting my health under control before embarking on another uni degree. Reading is one way I can achieve this as it relaxes me.

Although I have never watched Star Wars (it doesn't appeal to me. I'm more or a Marvel fan, with a couple of exceptions.) I have a knowledge of some of the characters in it. Out of the different teams if I had to choose which one I wanted to be a part of The Phantom Menace would be it. My reason is that I have a thing about Phantoms.

My shelf for this challenge is: TT5-Phantom-Menace

Hey nothing wrong with loving her, it would be boring if we all had the same taste in authors.

Roger - president of NBR United - (roger_presidentofnbrunited) | 612 comments So is every one looking forward to the fourth of may?

kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments You bet :) I have 1 of the BOMs ready bit am thinking of getting A Gentleman in Moscow too.

Nikki the Sapphired Book Dragon AKA NixieNut (sapphireddragon) | 1397 comments Hiya

Sorry I wasn’t around last week. I had a crazy week with our car dying, one of our dogs passing away , a minor cancer scare (all okay thank fully) as well as a restructure at work ( though my role is safe for now) and a property inspection but back on deck this week and raring to go on the 4th May.

Elise congrats on your wedding and hope you are enjoying married life.

Kathleen, with this tower teams, they decided to try and mix the time zones a little more though the majority of our uno team seems to have been placed on Karen’s empire strikes back team :-P

I put my name down for the Strange the Dreamer BOM starting May 22. I have the arc and still haven’t gotten around to reading it so figure I may as well get some points for it. 

Also kinda bummed because I have a 800 page arc that needs to be read in time for its release on 4th May so its not going to be able to count for tower teams 

That being said I am starting to put together my May reading schedule and I have some awesome books to look forward to this month, A Court of Wings and Ruin (A Court of Thorns and Roses, #3) by Sarah J. Maas , Blade Bound (Chicagoland Vampires, #13) by Chloe Neill and Lord of Shadows (The Dark Artifices, #2) by Cassandra Clare to name a few plus I have just started reading the night Huntress series.

What books are you looking forward to this month?

message 37: by [deleted user] (new)

Sounds like a really crazy week Nikk! Glad everything worked out ok for you.

Court of wings and ruins! So excited for that one too, it's one of my favorite series :D

I haven't done a lot of planning yet (I'm in so many challenges right now there's just been no room! Thankfully some of them should be ending soon.) I do have some long books I want to read this year though so I've been saving those for tower teams :)

kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments Glad everything's okay with you Nikk!

With UNO ending soon, I'm happy we have TT right after. I hope another team challenge pops up right after TT somewhere.

I don't know why I'm not getting notifications for this thread when it's clearly turned on (GR glitch hmmm?)

Ours are by donation, so I can come away with a ton of books for little money and then donate the ones I finish back for the next sale. I love that it is not only a great way to get books, but a great way to recycle as well :-)

Amy the book-bat (batkisses) | 914 comments Oh! If anyone uses Overdrive for audiobooks, the AudioSync freebies started today! This week is one called The Dead House and also The Picture of Dorian Gray.

http://www.audiobooksync.com/

just click on the cover of the book you want, enter your email and download... quick and easy.

2 new books available each week for 16 weeks (32 free audio books!)

I did this last year when I learned about it and ended up with some really great books. This summer's list looks pretty good as well. AND they can count toward our tower team goals :-)

One of the libraries that I go to has a 50 cent per book system. Then another group of libraries I go to has a freeby system. This latter one is far more dangerous for me than the 50 cent one as I tend to come away with lots more books.

I take my cloth grocery bags and fill them up... Between my dad and I, we probably pick up a couple hundred books per sale. But then we also donate back quite a few of them for the next sale. I know I have more books than I'll ever be able to read, but I never know what I'm going to want to read next, so it is nice having my own library to choose from :-)

Now I just need space for some bookshelves...

message 47: by [deleted user] (new)

The library I work at sells books for 25 cents...it's really bad working there because I get to go through them before they get put on the sales table. I bought 20 books last week lol I definitely don't have enough room for all the books I buy.

Roger - president of NBR United - (roger_presidentofnbrunited) | 612 comments Yes While I love print books that is the challenge finding enough space for them that is why I love my kindle. Lots of space for books.

I have nearly 2000 books on my kindle and I think I'm getting close to capacity on it. I was trying to work out how I could increase the space without having to buy another kindle. Any suggestions?

message 50: by Karla (new)

Karla Hi, everyone! Sorry for checking in so late. I lost track of the days. My shelf is link: tower-team-v

I am 34, will be 35 in June. I have two cats, Cocoa and Smokey, both boys. I have a degree in education, but after four yeas of being a substitute teacher, no longer want to teach. I am now trying to start my own etsy shop and getting into transcribing.

I will read just about anything. I'm not into erotica. I have been in a bit of a reading slump, I don't think I've read anything all April! This challenge will help me get out of the slump.
