Beth | 1659 comments We are ready to go!

message 13: by Audrey Jane (new)

Audrey Jane | 1815 comments Indeed! Locked and loaded, ready to go 😀 Quickly checking in, I'm currently on the phone (and the dictionary function is killing me, autocorrect and all) but I will report back for duty later this evening.

message 14: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (pokey36) | 1188 comments Hi Team!! So excited to start. :)

message 15: by Audrey Jane (new)

Audrey Jane | 1815 comments Nice to meet you Shannon! And welcome aboard the Enterprise...sorry, wrong fandom :)

Here we go. I'm Audrey from Belgium. This is the third time I'm participating to Tower Teams and it's my favourite team challenge because you can read everything you want (no requirements) at your own pace. *ahum* My cat is trying to sit on my keyboard right now so I'm currently in the middle of a battle right here *sigh*

message 16: by Beth (new)

Beth | 1659 comments I have to ask my kids for more details about how the Sith got their revenge; all the prequel movies are a bit of a blur.

I'm excited to be on another team challenge, and I'm a first-time captain. My goal to prepare for the challenge is to finish some of the 30 or so books I currently have open, or at least to admit that I don't intend to read them and clear the out...

message 17: by Audrey Jane (new)

Audrey Jane | 1815 comments Ok, I'm back :)
Regarding my tastes in books, I tend to be more picky lately but I read pretty much anything except maybe New Adult and YA.
My favourite authors are Juliet Marillier, Ilona Andrews, Lindsay Buroker and Alexandre Dumas. I will read anything written by them. I'm looking forward to the release of White Hot next month. Currently my favourite ongoing series is Kate Shugak, a mystery/crime series set in Alaska.
Mmm, what else, I'm also a fan of the series Band of Brothers, Black Adder and anything by John Cleese and Marvel (MCU). And I enjoy visiting the British Isles.

I'm looking forward playing this round of TT with you all fellow Sith members ;)

Please don't forget to post your shelf in the thread when you have time. Mine is: Tower Teams V

message 18: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (pokey36) | 1188 comments Hey Audrey Jane and Beth! I think this is only my 2nd Tower challenge. Heck if I can remember, I play way to many challenges. Thankfully, I don't have a whole lot going on right now. :)

My shelf is: A-Tower-V

message 19: by Audrey Jane (new)

Audrey Jane | 1815 comments @Beth: Basically, after carrying out order 66 they rule the galaxy again :)

Beth wrote: "or at least to admit that I don't intend to read them and clear the out..."

I hear you. Often I peruse my shelves and try to reduce my tbr to the books I absolutely want to read, it became more manageable.

@Shannon: Haha, you couldn't resist the challenges as well, they are indeed extremely addictive :)

message 20: by Karen ♐ (last edited Apr 20, 2017 02:25PM) (new)

Karen ♐ (kmk1214) | 1865 comments Hi, everyone. This is my 2nd Tower challenge. I was in IV. It was a fantastic time. I loved the fact that each person basically read what they wanted and at their own speed. I live in Chicago, Illinois. Married with 3 grown sons and 2 DILs. I love all kinds of romance; contemporary, erotic, western, romantic suspense, historical. I don't like Sci Fi and I'm not crazy about PNR.

My shelf is: 1-ttv-books-read

message 21: by Kristie (new)

Kristie | 3595 comments Oh, yay! We're open!!

Hi everyone! This is my 2nd? 3rd? tower challenge. I've lost track because I've done a bunch of other team challenges mixed in. I love the idea of being able to read whatever you like. I like most genres and have some varied reading. Looking forward to playing with all of you!

My shelf: tt-v I look forward to watching this shelf grow!

message 22: by Kristie (new)

Kristie | 3595 comments Oh! Before I forget to mention it. I will be going away the first weekend of this challenge for my anniversary. I might not read as much or check in as much as usual, but I'll still be around.

Hmmm.... I wonder if we get extra points because my anniversary is on Star Wars day? ;) Yup, really, May the 4th. lol

message 23: by Karen ♐ (new)

Karen ♐ (kmk1214) | 1865 comments I definitely think we should, Kristie. Lol. Hope you have a great anniversary.

message 24: by Avid Reader and Geek Girl (last edited Apr 20, 2017 08:24PM) (new)

Avid Reader and Geek Girl (avidreaderandgeekgirl) | 300 comments I'm from Southeast WI; and my bf currently lives in a burb of where Karen ♐ lives. (for anyone not from the Midwestern USA, a burb is a suburb, just shortening stuff.

This is my first Tower Challenge but not Team Challenge,

Also, me and my bf are taking a few days away at the end of May-beginning of June, dates not completely solid yet. I'll be enjoying the spa and couple time, so not much reading.

I'll read pretty much anything as long as the writing is decent and I don't find it boring.

message 25: by Beth (new)

Beth | 1659 comments I am attempting to put our names and shelves into message #5 for easy reference, and it will also tell me which members I should go officially welcome so they know where we are chatting.

Avid reader, I'm probably blind but I didn't recognize your shelf name. And I notice that none of you have insane currently-reading counts like I do.

message 26: by Kristie (new)

Kristie | 3595 comments I never have more than six books or so on there at a time. They are the books I am physically reading at the moment. I try to keep it down to 2-4 at most times. If I have more, then I forget to pick one up or forget what's happening in one. I think with 31 I'd mix up all the stories! Are you actually reading all of those at the same time?

message 27: by Kristie (new)

Kristie | 3595 comments Hi Avid Reader! Are you just wrapping up UNO? That's a fun challenge too.

message 28: by Rachel (new)

Rachel into the Void | 215 comments Hi! I'm Rachel. I'm somewhere in my 30's and I live in a suburb of Minneapolis. I'm just finishing up Game of Thrones right now - I've only got 20% left of the last book. I'm glad I finally read it - it has slowed my book count down quite a bit, so I'm happy it will be finished before TT. I usually listen to one audiobook and read one physical book at the same time. I also read to my kids - my oldest daughters are big enough novels to count for TT - we are reading all of Rick Riordon's series.
I am addicted to GR - in particular I love reading reviews of books after I've finished them. IDK why, sometimes I feel like I spend more time doing that than reading actual books!
This is my 2nd TT. I had a lot of fun in the first one, anyone here that would like to be GR friends, please add me, I love to see what everyone is reading, even after TT is over.
I'm hoping there are some good selections for BOM - I will try to participate for those points. I read a little bit of everything.
My shelf is tower-team-5

message 29: by Nicole B (new)

Nicole B | 185 comments Hi, I'm Nicole. I'm in my early twenties, currently living in Japan, originally from the U.K. This is my second tower event and I'm going forward to it. I tend to read two to three books at a time ranging from classics, fantasy books to freebies/silly romances on Amazon unlimited depending on my mood. My 2017 reading shelf has all the books I currently own unread on it and I regularly check the deals for new books that I like the look off, so feel free to prod and ask me to read a book off the list (I normally pick at random lol).

My shelf is Tower V

Avid Reader and Geek Girl (avidreaderandgeekgirl) | 300 comments Kristie wrote: "Hi Avid Reader! Are you just wrapping up UNO? That's a fun challenge too."

Yes I am!

My shelf is May the Fourth Be with You

so yeah kinda blind ;) although it was pinned and the fourth lost it's "t" which I fixed.

Avid Reader and Geek Girl (avidreaderandgeekgirl) | 300 comments Oh age duh: I just turned 30, ugh!

message 33: by Karen ♐ (new)

Karen ♐ (kmk1214) | 1865 comments I usually have one audiobook going and reading another. I don't normally have more than 2-3 going at the same time. Normally 2.

message 34: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (pokey36) | 1188 comments I really didn't give any info about myself! I'm Shannon, a 46 year old mother of 2 teenage daughters (need more booze) and I live in Oregon. We're heading to AZ tomorrow, me to help my mom, my girls to bathe in the sun and get some Vit. D. I tend to read only 1 book at a time and have never listened to an audio book. I don't know why. I really only read M/M romance right now and my shelves are out of control. Can't wait to start this thing! :)

message 35: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn Cleary (rileygrf) I am here. Here is my shelf

Audrey Jane | 1815 comments Kristie wrote: "Hmmm.... I wonder if we get extra points because my anniversary is on Star Wars day? ;) Yup, really, May the 4th. lol"

I agree with Karen. That must count for something. We can always try to bribe, I mean ask the mods ;)

message 37: by Audrey Jane (new)

Audrey Jane | 1815 comments Welcome Avid Reader, Rachel and Nicole!

@Rachel: I understand the urge to read reviews or spend more time on GR than actually reading. It's especially pleasant to find reviews that voice your thoughts.

@Nicole: I heard great things about Japan, always have to think of cherry blossoms. Amazon freebies bestsellers are dangerous for the TBR shelf :)

message 38: by Audrey Jane (new)

Audrey Jane | 1815 comments I hope you can catch some vitamin D as well Shannon! I've tried audiobooks before but they make me sleepy. Usually I read one book at the time (never more than two).

Hello Carolyn :)!

message 39: by Beth (new)

Beth | 1659 comments Hi Carolyn!

Avid Reader -- I knew the problem was my eyes! In my defense, it was late and I was just skimming the shelves on your home page, and since there are 0 books on all our tower shelves, it didn't even make the list.

I'm a 49 year old mother of 2 in Washington (the state), and my oldest son has just decided on Willamette University in Oregon, so we just got back from a visit there.

I'm a compulsive book starter, and I also have a habit of leaving books scattered about (a book that lives in the car, for example) so I have some books that will inch along on my currently-reading shelves forever. I should have around ten or so on there, what with my challenge books, my quest to read a book from every shelf of my local library, my attempt to read the entire list of finalists for the Cybils awards, my book clubs, and my random picks from my shelves and the library. I like to switch around a bit, but somehow things have recently gotten out of control... I like the excuse of Tower 5 to make me straighten up!

Oh, I can only listen to audio books in the car; they drive me crazy otherwise. Currently I have two going on -- the SF one serialized on the Baen podcast that I listen to with my son during our car pool, and one for me that I put on when he's not around. But depending on how much driving around I do, it can take me ages to get through them.

message 40: by Kristie (new)

Kristie | 3595 comments I love listening to audios in the car. I almost always have one going.

message 41: by Karen ♐ (new)

Karen ♐ (kmk1214) | 1865 comments Sometimes I can listen to audiobooks when working. In addition when I'm cooking, I listen to them.

message 42: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn Cleary (rileygrf) I always have an audio book in my car

message 43: by Rachel (new)

Rachel into the Void | 215 comments For a couple GoT's, I did the kindle whispersync. I would read on my kindle and then when I got in the car, audible would play from my last reading stop. It was pretty awesome!! I would only do it for a book that I knew I would both listen and read again though. Usually I can get most things I read from the library.

Avid Reader and Geek Girl (avidreaderandgeekgirl) | 300 comments Rachel wrote: "For a couple GoT's, I did the kindle whispersync. I would read on my kindle and then when I got in the car, audible would play from my last reading stop. It was pretty awesome!! I would only do it ..."

That's actually sometimes the cheapest way to get the audio book.

message 45: by Beth (new)

Beth | 1659 comments I get all my audios from the library. I can get them either as CDs or as digital audios. I read off a tablet rather than a kindle, because I use Kindle, NOOK, and Overdrive apps so I can read in any format. And I still like paper best of all. Sometimes I get books in paper and digital formats from the library so I can read one at home and bring my tablet if I'm going out.

message 46: by Beth (new)

Beth | 1659 comments Oh -- just to make sure everyone knows, the mods have declared:

For TOWER TEAMS we're making The Circle (May's Adult Sci-Fi/Fantasy BOM) an exception.

Meaning, we are granting the page points, participating in discussion points, and DQ's points, as long as you finish the book after the starting date.

In case anyone was hesitating over starting it...

message 47: by Claire (new)

Claire | 273 comments Hi everyone,
Thanks for letting me know, Beth, I hadn't noticed yet the group started.
I'm Claire from Belgium. I only started challenges this year and allready have way too many:-) It is so much fun.
I love books and read a lot all my life, most of all thrillers, fantady and classics. This looks like an awesome group. So nice to meet you all'

Avid Reader and Geek Girl (avidreaderandgeekgirl) | 300 comments How are we going to figure out the BOM? Who does questions for each book?

message 49: by Kristie (new)

Kristie | 3595 comments You just put your name in the BOM book thread if you're interested. I already put my name in for Strange the Dreamer to participate and write questions. We should probably report back here when we do and try to have someone do questions for each BOM since they are worth so many points.

message 50: by Kristie (new)

Kristie | 3595 comments Actually, I think it helps if multiple people from a team offer to do questions. If they get too many offers, they randomly choose people to do the questions, so having more people increases your chances that someone from your team will get picked.
