Lauren Allen | 4 comments I just read Leviathan Wakes by James S. A. Corey. Part Noir mystery, part space opera, it's fast paced and filled with great characters. This is the first book in the Expanse series. Corey has published 6 of the expected 9 books in the series, and it's already been turned into television series on Scyfy ( which is also fantastic) Because the books are long, I'll be moving slowly through the series, but I'm excited to have found something fun to read!

The books are set in a future where Earth has colonized Mars, Moons and the belts of the outer planets. Mars, Earth and "the Belters" are at odds over resources, taxation, and class struggles. This combined with morally bankrupt scientific research creates great plot and complex questions about ethics.

Travis (trav) | 2 comments I read the first three books in this series back when they came out and love them. They are so well done and I enjoyed reading how the two writers team up for every book passing the manuscript back and forth until it's done.

These books are all HUGE, but worth it. The JCLC system has the first couple as ebooks, but I think this series is a perfect candidate for ebook because of the physical size of each book (maybe if we chat them up they'll get them in the ebook catalog).

So glad you mentioned this series. I have not had a chance to see the tv series yet, but am glad to hear it's good! You never know what a screen writer is going to do with a book.

Interesting! I've never encountered a book having to do with both of those sub-genres. Admittedly, SciFi Fantasy is not my forte. I'm hoping to learn more and get some good recommendations through this group!
