If I recall correctly, the front cover had three girls sitting in chairs or towels, chilling in the sun.

Not much to go on, but this sort of fits...

What's the genre and tone - contemporary romance, mystery, funny/angsty/romantic/sad/etc.?

I don't know what the plot was, but I'm under the impression that it's a comedy. All I remember from it is the main character talking about her dad in the beginning.

Hmm, I'm not so sure... I could've sworn I remember the background being more blue, and the girls reclining on outdoor beach lounge chairs.

Is this mostly a romance for teens? How old are girls?

I don't know about any romance, but the girls should be around 16-17.
