mrbooks | 1469 comments John you are making me feel old calling it a classic. I remember when it first came out, and now it's a classic that must mean I'm a antique

message 2: by AMiddaugh (new)

AMiddaugh | 4 comments I'm not really sure if I should re-read IT before the movie comes out in September. I have a goal to finish all my books on my TBR by 2019 or 2020, and I can't buy anymore books until I finish my TBR. I have 25 books to finish and I'm not sure if I should re-read IT, when I still have 25 books. It is my favorite book and I've wanted to re-read IT for a while. Any opinions?

Matthew (funkygman007) | 199 comments Just finished my reread about 30 minutes ago!

Beagle Lover (Avid Reader) (beaglelover55) I recently rewatched the original It mini-series to jog my memory. I read this book years ago when it was first published...now that's giving my age away!

Jack Palmer | 8 comments I've never actually seen the original movie but I can tell pennywise a mile off, its always been one I needed to watch but I've never got round to it. I saw the trailer for the the remake and it looked awesome, will be definitely watching in September! Just finished reading Trainspotting after seeing T2 (which the book and both films were class) and I knew I had to fish IT of my shelf and smash my way through it (which I got a free copy off and was chuffed to pieces). Been reading for a few days now and I'm just getting hooked, two days of as of tomorrow so all book and chills for me (hopefully not the weather!) ☮️☮️

Nicole Power (nicolepower) | 295 comments I just finished my re-read yesterday! I hadn't read it in 12-13 years. It was so amazing.

message 7: by Gary (new)

Gary Smith Finishing the book I never finished. Starting it as a child, never finished. Starting from the beginning again and I love it. Its long as can be, but I can't put the thing down! Just waiting for September 8th!

message 8: by Heather (new)

Heather | 5 comments I just finished last week. I forgot all the details and what a good solid story it is. I read it as a teen last time so it was interesting to read it from an adult perspective.

message 9: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (amandakelly1989) | 8 comments I will probably re-read, even though it is definitely my most re-read book ever. For a couple years in a row I was re-reading it every October, I am overdue

I can see where that is going, so I will head there was it for Halloween ?

My most re-read SK book is the Stand.

message 11: by Jack (new)

Jack Palmer | 8 comments Matthew cross I will have to have a look at them after I finish the book also!

message 12: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Ross | 3 comments I have tried re-reading it twice since I read it years upon years ago. It was one of my favourite King books for a while, at least until I read The Stand. I did pick it up the last time I was at my parent's house so many it is time to revisit Derry...

Betsy Hetzel | 469 comments I have not read IT for ages so I just ordered the paperback for a re-read. It is a long one, eh? but I know that it is a goodie !

Nice to see someone else in the same boat! I hadn't read it since I was teen either, my re-read was amazing!

message 16: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Power (nicolepower) | 295 comments I've just bought the miniseries with Tim Curry because I haven't seen it in so long. Going to re-watch it now that I've finished the book :)

message 17: by Ross (new)

Ross This is my first time reading it and I also hate to admit it but I've also never seen the movie...I'm sorry guys

Kandice | 4387 comments Ross wrote: "This is my first time reading it and I also hate to admit it but I've also never seen the movie...I'm sorry guys"

It's actually a tv mini-series and not so easy to find anymore, so don't apologize!

message 19: by mrbooks (new)

mrbooks | 1469 comments I've watched it several times I owned it on video tape, that shows you how old it is and I am LOL.

message 20: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 4387 comments Matthewcross87 wrote: "its very easy to find Amazon sells it on vhs, dvd and blue ray and its on itunes and other streaming things"

But you have to buy it. It's not easy to find it for free. O_o

message 21: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 4387 comments No, of course not, but with today's subscriptions to services like Netflix, Amazon Prime and Hulu to name a few, NOT being able to find something available on one of those, or OnDemand if you subscribe to cable is out of the norm.

message 22: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 4387 comments Not sure everyone would call it a waste, but to each his own.

message 23: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (amandakelly1989) | 8 comments My dad had it on tape I later got the dvds

message 24: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 4387 comments I used to have it on VHS, but never replaced it with DVDs, but I really would like to watch again before the movie.

message 25: by mrbooks (new)

mrbooks | 1469 comments Yes I will have to get the better half to order it for me off of Amazon. I have broken down and started my re read of IT. I was going to wait until I reached my goal but have run out of new book to read. and have to wait a week or two before I can pick up some more books.

message 26: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Power (nicolepower) | 295 comments I really enjoyed watching the miniseries this weekend after I finished my re-read the week before. I liked seeing what was changed and what was added in. I have to say, it's really excellent overall. I was surprised to see it was only about 3 hours long.

I wish it could have been longer. They had to take out a lot and it could have easily been another excellent hour longer.

Here's hoping the two movies can hold up to it and take advantage of the extra time :)

message 27: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Power (nicolepower) | 295 comments Oh, and while the CGI at the end wasn't Langoliers awful (I watched that the weekend before and died laughing, even though it was probably impressive animation for 1995!) the book definitely does a better job with what It looks like at the end of (trying to avoid spoilers). And the entire end in general is MUCH better in the book, I feel, but I understand why it would be a really freaking hard thing to try and do visually.

Jesus. I've never finished a book and wanted to re-read it again this fast in my life. It's definitely in my top 10 novels of all time, by any authors.

That's why I think most adaptations of King's work tend to come off as cheezy. He describes things so perfectly that my imagination fills in the blanks. They simply don't have the technology to put that on screen in a way that's not laughable. Not even now, compared to 1995, in my opinion.

message 29: by Summer (new)

Summer (paradisecity) | 360 comments I'll be rereading this one (and watching the miniseries) sometime in August before the movie comes out. I'm finishing up my DT reread before those movies come out first.

I hadn't thought about audio commentary for the miniseries, but I bet it'd be fun to listen to. I don't have a DVD player at the moment but it might be worth picking one up.

message 30: by mrbooks (last edited May 01, 2017 03:12PM) (new)

mrbooks | 1469 comments You can listen to it if you have a computer. Go on you tube in the search type in audiobook it, it will give you a choice of several to listen to for free and you can even choose the language you want to listen to.

message 31: by Anth (new)

Anth Brod | 1 comments Oh dear lord that CGI in the Langoliers. I was only 8 or so at the time, but I'll never forget seeing that with my friends while at a sleep over.

It is a classic Stephen King I love the way his so effortlessly bounces back and forth between them as children and adults nearing 40.

message 41: by Deyth (new)

Deyth Banger (deyth_banger) | 59 comments But what's the idea of re-reading a book in case there are 1000000 books available and haven't been read?

message 42: by mrbooks (new)

mrbooks | 1469 comments It's not about the Millions of books written and unread. It is about the love of a particular story the feeling of familiarity a loved friend long missed. Yes we know the story, but with the size of the book can you say you remember every little detail written in the story? I have read the Stand six or seven times and still run across little details I have missed or the meaning is different because of my mood or life experience.

There are some stories that call to you to re read them and yes I do have several in my list. to be exact all the Harry Potter series The Lord of the Ring Trilogy The Dark Tower series, The Sword of Shannara trilogy, The Hobbit, The Green Mile, The Talisman, The Stand, It, and Insomnia just to name a few.

message 43: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Gonzalez Is there a different thread where people could talk about certain parts of the book?

message 44: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Power (nicolepower) | 295 comments Yes, like Matthew said, each book has its own thread. You can find the individual book threads on the main discussions page. Would love to discuss IT with you!

The only thing is whether or not spoilers are on that thread. You can put spoilers under a spoiler tag, but I think thats visible to others mainly on a PC and not for phone app.

message 45: by Deyth (new)

Deyth Banger (deyth_banger) | 59 comments I don't know about the details... But the idea of one book is to get the concept...

...

You can't remember each line... but still it doesn't change anything... I have watched 6 times probably, The Running Man movie and in the 2 or the 3 I was getting very very bored... The feeling is like watching each year once Home Alone from 1 up to 5-6 Part... try this doing in period like from 2010-2011 up to 2017-2018.. Which are 8-9 Years process.

Just on the Record Each Year in my town where I live on TV comes Home Alone... it's around the Christmas... New Year holi day!

message 46: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 4387 comments I reread constantly. One of the reasons I reread is that I am above all else a mood reader. I've read a book and not liked it, only to stumble across it later in life and end up loving it. Because reading is a collaborative process between the reader and the book, a book can mean different things to me at different times. That's not even taking into consideration the points mrbooks brought up about finding details you forgot or overlooked or simply revisiting an "old friend."

I agree completely! I love re-reading books and it happens very often that I'll re-read a book and find I value it for completely different reasons and appreciate it twice as much as I did when I read it years before. That's why I want to re-read all the required reading books from my high school English classes that I actively disliked. I'm curious if I might actually like Rebecca all these years later.

I understand exactly what you are saying. There is nothing like reading or watching a novel/movie for the first time. But I do enjoy some rereads but it isn't something I do every year. When you fall in love with the characters it's like I do with certain books it's like visiting old friends and if I pick up on a detail I missed the first time around then so much the better. I loved Duma Key so much that I pretty much read the book and then listened to the audiobook back to back. I may not read it again for 5 years or more.

message 49: by Karen B. (new)

Karen B. (raggedy11) | 155 comments I enjoy revisiting favorite books like visiting family. I've seen them, I know them, but each experience with them is different.

message 50: by Carrie (new)

Carrie Ann | 2 comments I'm re-reading it, too.
