The Bean Trees I would recommend The Bean Trees by Barbara Kingsolver. I read this book last summer and I am now reading it again because I think this book goes well with our overall theme of identity this year. The story follows a young girl just out of high school who comes from a small quirky town in Kentucky. She leaves her home in an old car on a quest to find a new name for herself (literally and figuratively). She ends up in a new state with new responsibilities and has to learn to navigate life with her lack of education and small view of the world. If you enjoyed Rapture of Canaan and our unit on coming of age I think you would also enjoy this book. It has a lot of humor in it but it also discusses a lot of relevant issues. There is also a character in this book named Esperanza, which further builds my case that this book goes along with the other books we have read this year. I also just found out that there is a sequel to this book so I will be reading that next.

Beth Watkins I read this many years ago, and loved it. I have liked almost everything she has written.

Jared Urbach I only would recommend this to strong readers, it's a boring book.

Krystyon I recommend this book for people who are really good at reading, and are also willing to read anything. i am definitely not a huge fan of this book.

Lalo Espinoza I recommend this book because the plot is very diverse but it all adds up later. If you are a good reader and enjoy reading, I recommend.

Connor I strongly recommend this to inspiring authors as a good example characterization and being able to split the book between two characters and tying them together while keeping the characters personalities from changing.
