There's a new sheriff in town, Arne Soderberg. Were you surprised that Cork decided not to run?

Not really because in the last book Jo did not want him to and he has been trying to do what she wants.

I agree with Phrynne, though you can tell he can't get the law enforcement instincts to let up. He's just naturally a cop.

I was surprised because I thought Jo was okay with it once she felt secure that Cork wasn't going to be leaving if knowledge of her affair became public.

I was surprised, too, Veronica. They seemed to be going in that direction at the end of the last book.
