Pop Sugar's Annual Ultimate Reading Challenge discussion

Hello everyone! I don't know why, but I'm having the hardest time thinking of a book to fulfill the "book set in the wilderness" category. I typically only like fiction, and I tend to prefer fantasy, sci-fi, or historical fiction over anything contemporary. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Well, you could pick any of the Lord of the Rings books, or the Narnia books or even The Hunger Games.

I used The Blue Fox for this category since most of the action takes place in the mountains in Iceland (frozen wilderness!). It's beautifully written even in translation and quite short.

I suggest Wild.

I was in Oregon over the weekend and was able to visit the Bridge of the Gods which is where Cheryl Strayed completed her journey. I was so excited to hike on the PCT (even if it was for only a half mile!)

A Walk in the Woods: Rediscovering America on the Appalachian Trail is also good. It takes place on the AT, not the PCT. Both books are good.

I'm currently reading The Hour of Land https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2... . It's a unique combination of a personal, historical, political, and poetic view of several of the National Parks.

I'm reading California (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...) for this one.

I recommend "The Great Alone" by Kristen Hanna. Excellent book. Captivating.
