In Thirteen Reasons Why Hannah is able to release some of the emotions building inside her through poetry. She turns to a poetry class at the library for help during the difficult times she faces in the novel. Self expression can be an excellent form of self healing. We all express ourselves in different ways. How do you express yourself and get those feelings out?

Also if your interested in reading some poetry about love, loss, and self discovery; here are some titles to start with.
Milk and Honey
Ariel
No Matter the Wreckage
Honeybee
Home
And Still I Rise

Happy Reading!

I am adding Home and Milk and Honey to my To-Read list!

In high school I wrote in a journal and created scrapbooks to express myself. I do not consider myself artistic, so creating collages, scrapbooks, and journaling were all very helpful. In Thirteen Reasons Why there was a scribble notebook in Monet's and I think that is genius!

In college, I coped with stress by coloring. I would buy the kids coloring books and color my stress away. I was so excited when adult coloring became trendy. What a plethora of options!

Mandala Madness: Adult Coloring Book
Harry Potter Poster Coloring Book
Secret Garden: An Inky Treasure Hunt and Colouring Book

I used to buy kids coloring books in college too! Now I have a collection of adult ones that love.

Exercise and Reading are two big stress relievers for me as well! You seem to have found some wonderful and productive techniques for stress management and self expression.

Thirteen Reasons Why definitely doesn't deal with the happiest of topics. I do think it is worth the read because it's a story that really makes you think about the issue of suicide and mental health.
