Play Book Tag discussion

Great expectations - none met. I could even give it 1.5 stars, but I had to round it down to 1. I know I am the only person on Goodreads not to like this book, most readers seem to be enthusiastic. But I didn't like it at all. I thought I would read about Kenyan culture, society, maybe politics. I found some ramblings about the author's life. Of course I knew it was a memoir, so there was bound to be a lot of talk about Wainaina's life, but I thought there would be something else as well. True, sometimes he does talk about politics etc., but I found that was only in passing. To be honest, though, nothing is really told in depth in this book. It lacks just that, depth. And, last but not least, it it is too artsy, which ultimately leads it to be incoherent. This is more so in the first chapters, and it does get better after a while, but I found this kind of writing so irritating that I wanted to throw the book out of the window (well, not really, since I have it on my Kindle). I wouldn't recommend it, but I know I am the only one to say so, so please, go on and read it if you find it interesting.

Wow, two disappointing reads so close together!

Karin, I've had quite a lot of disappointing reads so far this year, which makes me a bit sad. I hope the rest of the year proves better.
