Krysta (krystafig) | 4089 comments Hey everyone.
I am so, terribly sorry about our absence as moderators. I can't speak for everyone, but I know that my life got incredibly busy over the last year.
I graduated college with two associates degrees, got a new job, bought a house, adopted a puppy, helped (and still am helping) my husband train for a full IronMan triathlon, started preparing to start a family, and tried to keep my head on straight from day to day.
That's not an excuse to leave you all hanging with no explanation though, and for that, I apologize.

With that being said, I have reached out to the other moderators to see what we can do to get the ball rolling again.
I noticed that many of you want the Reading Challenges to come back, and I do, too!

What else would you like us to reinstate, and/or do you have any fresh ideas you think we should try out?

Again, I can not apologize enough for leaving you all in the dark for so long so I only hope that you all can forgive us and help us to get the group out of the funk we've left it in, and spice things back up!

I look forward to your input!

Natalie A. Definitely the Reading Challenges and Book of the Month. Maybe each month can have a theme for the BOM pertaining to a particular event within that time? I'm not sure if that was done before but that would be pretty cool. Thank you for the update!

For the BotM we tried to let the members pick what we read. Do you think we should do that still, or pick it as the moderators?
The BotM discussion boards weren't too active, so I didn't k ow if that was still something people wanted to continue with.

Robin (robinpickell) | 1138 comments I know this is just me probably, but on the BotM, I don't always know what to suggest, especially if I want to read something in a series or I am worried ya'll might have already read the book and not wish to do a re-read. I know this isn't a good excuse not to participate, but I just don't know what to suggest. I do like looking at what my groups are reading and if I have not read or have read it and enjoyed it enough for a re-read, I will read the book.

Right, and I didn't participate in every BotM either because I was more concerned with finishing my reading challenges. If the BotM satisfied a requirement for my challenge, I might read it, but that didn't happen often.

Maybe. We may need to ask for members to host the discussions if we do something like this.

At this point, I'm waiting to hear back from the other Co-Mods to see what they're willing to take on and how we can divide the responsibilities. I know of at least one Co-Mod that will be stepping down so far.

I will keep that in mind and let you know!! Thank you for the offer.

Krysta (krystafig) | 4089 comments Alrighty everyone...

I am leaving on a work trip from May 14th - May 24th.
I haven't heard back from the other co-mods yet, and I have decided to give them until I return from my trip to respond. If they don't, I will carry on moderating the group and ask for some of you to help me out.
Again, I'm so sorry for the lull we put this group in and I will work very hard to get it back up and running when I come back from my trip.

Robin (robinpickell) | 1138 comments I apologize for appearing rude, but what would being a MOD entail?

I don't think you appear rude at all.
The mods and I would keep the discussion boards organized/bully-free, create reading challenges, provoke discussions and participation among members, run Books of the Month, and just try keeping everyone engaged.
With a different group of moderators, we could go in a number of directions regarding how exactly we engage the members...it just depends on what you can bring to the table.

My favorite part was always the reading challenges, so that's where I focused my attention.

Robin (robinpickell) | 1138 comments I'd love to help out as well. I'm just worried I won't help the group.

Q: instead of doing a BOTM, in another group I'm in, we do a pick it for me challenge. What if people sign up, post their list of books they would be interested in reading the next month and as in that group, the mod chooses pairs and you can post your thoughts or reviews into the post so other's who are looking for ideas might find something they didn't think of previously?

That sounds a lot like the Buddy Reads we used to do back when I first joined the group! If there is an interest, I think that would be a great idea!

Natalie A. I would like to help out as well. I'm not sure in what capacity but I would like to help.
