We're heading into the home stretch. This was a long one. What are you thinking/feeling as we get ready to wrap it up?

Debbi Faust I just finished it and I gave it 5 stars. I know some of you mentioned that Caroline and Paul had an affair but I don't remember them ever consummating their relationship. I know she loved him deeply and he loved her but did they actually.....you know?????

I am still disgusted that Herta got off so easily. I don't understand how that could have happened.

Thanks for the great discussions everyone. I can't wait to read North and South along with you all.

It didn't go into detail (thank God) but I believe Caroline and Paul did have "sleepovers" and it talked about them waking up together...if I remember correctly. I can't think of any specifics because I didn't like that storyline so I wasn't paying as close attention to it.

It's crazy to me that Herta went right back into being a doctor after her too-short time in prison. To me it shows even more the twisted way of thinking. Did she really not think she was doing anything wrong? Did she really see her work at Ravensbruk as being "helpful" for the betterment of the Aryan race? She must have. In hindsight of course we see how awful it was, but in that time there were truly people who thought that way. It's hard to believe. I'd like to think I wouldn't be one of them, but it's hard to really know how I would have thought and what I would have done during WWII times.
