Here's the discussion board for the first in the Firebird series, by Claudia Gray.

Have you read this trilogy? What did you think of this first book?

I picked this up from the library earlier this week and started it immediately.

After 63 pages I decided to put it down.

I absolutely loved the concept of inter-dimensional travel! The narrator's voice wasn't that annoying. Maybe it was the fact that she was concerned with clothing brands, nightclubs, warm boys rescuing her...? when she really should have just thrown it all out the window and searched for her father's killer.

I'm going to hold on to the library book for now (I have it for three weeks) and keep my place, but if I don't feel compelled to keep reading I'll be sitting out this series...yet again.

Hoping others enjoy it more than I.

AmbWitch It seems that Forgoten Reads is good at picking its series as everyone so far has been a serieies I have really ejoyed.

There were a few times that I started to grow bored of A Thousand Pieces of You, the Submarine world for one, but overall it was an entertaining read. I loved how because it was about traveling between dimensions, we got to see the world building of more than one setting. It did bug me a little how she found that she could speak Russian when she arrived there as it was rather convenient, but at the same time, it would have caused difficulties to the plot had she not been able to speak the language of the world she arrived in.

The plot was a little predictable as one of the first things I thought to myself was that (view spoiler).

I decided to pick this back up and just pick up where I left off. I had no problem getting back into the story. I agree that there were parts that were a bit of a drag, but overall I did like the book.

Sometimes I got confused on the whole consciousness traveling thing, because at first I thought they were physically traveling and there were two of each of them in a particular dimension. It took me half the book to figure this out, even when it was spelled out for me.

I also thought the world building was pretty fun, seeing multiple verses described, although there was a lot of emphasis on how people looked and what they wore, more than the actual world.

The semi-love triangle was expected but not annoying and the romance wasn't as heavy as I thought it would be, even though it does, essentially, drive the story. I like how it is also driven by one girl's need to find her father. That was nice.
